1. Used textbooks

Buying used books is much more affordable than buying a new book. Also, the seventh edition isn't really that different from the eighth edition. Buy used textbooks or share with a friend, and sell them back.

2. Meal plan

Choose your meal plan based on how much you eat and how often. If you don’t eat 21 meals a week, don’t get that plan. There are several options for a reason. Cooking and making your own meals would also be a good money saving option.

3. Student discounts

When shopping at certain stores ask if they have a student discount. You’d be surprised at how many places offer discounts when you have a student ID. Here are a few stores that offer student discounts: 20 stores with student discount

4. Sell things you don’t need any more

For example clothes, old furniture, books etc. This will help you earn a little extra cash and there are tons of sites like Craigslist, Facebook groups, Poshmark, Offer up, and Ebay to help you sell your things.

5. Be an RA

College is a huge financial investment, especially when living on campus. Depending on the school you attend, housing can vary in price. Either way, living on campus is expensive. When becoming an RA, you don’t have to worry about paying that bill. Resident assistants have their room and board fees paid for by the school. Be a resident adviser, and you can get free room and board. It is also a resume booster and an easy way to meet people!

6. Find a job

There are a lot of on-campus jobs that don’t require you to do a lot, like working the service desk at the library. This can give you time to do your homework. Or look for a job that is flexible and works with your school hours.

7. Scholarships

Constantly apply for scholarships! You never know which scholarships you qualify for. The more scholarships you win, the more money you won’t have to pay for college, allowing you to spend it elsewhere.

8. Limit how many times you eat out

Eating out all the time is an expensive habit. Most people don’t realize how much money they spend a month on eating out. Try to avoid temptation!

9. Coupons

You don’t have to go extreme couponing, but if you take just a few minutes to google coupons you could save $5 each grocery trip and that adds up. It’s like free money!

10. Keep an eye on your bank account

It’s really important to keep a close eye on your bank account, keep track of your bills and purchases. That way you can always know how much money you have in your account and know when to save and when to spend a little money.

I hope these tips have given you some new ideas on how to save some cash! Good luck you starving college student you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
