In today’s society, you need money for everything. And if you don’t have the money, what do you do? Money is the cause of so many problems, yet we can’t live without it. Many conflicts that happened in history centered on money, power and territory. If society as a whole wasn’t so obsessed with being better or having more than someone else, a lot of problems could be solved. However, many people have issues with money, even when greed isn’t the cause of it. Some people aren’t as fortunate as others and don’t have money to solve their problems. At the end of the day though, you have a lot of other things to be happy about.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to be successful; however, there are some people who take money way too far. If you choose working over spending quality time with your friends and family, that’s a line that shouldn’t be crossed. You should not have to completely stop living your life. I’ve met people who started to put money before their own happiness and to me that is not okay. What is the point of having millions of dollars if you aren’t happy with what is going on in your life? Yes, money is essential to paying the bills, supporting yourself and your family, and treating yourself to the things that you want. However, what happens when you push all your loved ones away because you got sidetracked on working 24/7?
Money can only make you happy to a certain extent. I am a first year college student, spending thousands of dollars to get an education in order to get a well-paying job after I graduate. At this point in my life, money seems to be everything. There are loans to be paid, books to be bought and some spending money wouldn’t be so bad. In the big picture, however, money is not everything. Seeing people, like my friend John that basically threw his life away for a car, upsets me. Some people get so caught up in having money that they lose focus on what really matters in life: Family, friends and love. I don’t know about anyone else, but I wouldn’t want to live in a mansion and have no one to share it with.
