To My Mother

Happy Birthday, You Wonder Woman You!

17
To My Mother
Shelby Keolani

Let me just start by saying I love you! I know that we argue and I know it's not always easy between us, but I love you more than I can ever express and I will be forever indebted to you for the life you've given me, both literally and figuratively.

You are the best of my best friends. I love you more than any other person on this Earth because you're the one I've been through every moment of it with. You knew me nine months before anyone else did, and that is a bond that can't be broken. Although you may not be the first to hear about EVERY problem, you are the one whose advice I take to heart most often. You are the one I come to when I know that no one else will really have the answer. You are the one I come to when solving the problem requires a deep knowledge of me, because nobody knows me better than you do.

I'm not in any hurry to grow up, especially now that it's happening whether I like it or not. I will always be your baby and you will always be my mama. But since I have no choice in the matter of becoming an adult, I will always look to you to find strength and guidance through this part of my life. I know you have far more wisdom about life than I, so I'll make you a deal: I'll keep helping you figure out millennial lingo and technology if you'll keep sharing that life-experience wisdom with me.

I know that you are aware of how special you are to me and to many others, but I never hesitate to use a chance to remind you of how much you mean to me. I couldn't do this life thing without you (quite literally), and I count myself as lucky to have you by my side through every rough patch and through every celebration. Here's to many more to come! I love you more than words and I am happy that I could make your big day a little more special. Happy Birthday!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
