Are you the mom of your friend group? Do you get the “You are such a mom!" comment often? When people tell me, "YOU are going to be just like your MOM!" or “Aw, you are going to be such a good mom!" I always laugh and smile. I smile because MOMS ARE THE BEST and I laugh because it is so true. Sometimes, you just cannot help it. Face it, your bag is filled like Mary Poppins and you are always needed. Many people would roll their eyes to think about turning out to be just like their crazy mothers … but I could not be more honored to share some of a mother's best qualities. What people are actually saying when they call you a mom:
1. “You are a great problem solver!"
There is nobody that can solve a problem like a mom can. A mother has the skills to analyze it (and sometimes overanalyze it to be thorough) and work it out. You can handle any argument and know when to hold back or push through. Moms are full of wisdom and can look at issues in a mature fashion. You will find the solution, even if it means fixing everything down to the very last detail.
2. “You are so caring!"
This confirms that you are a loving person and that you care about the people in your life. If you've got love to give, you give it wholeheartedly. Family and friends are special to you, and you might love too much. Caring and loving? Thanks. We will take it.
3. “You are so organized!"
Organizational skills must be hereditary. I can thank my mom for giving me the ability to make efficient to-do lists and check off every box in record time. Need a closet to be cleaned out and organized? You are ready to get it done! Even with a busy schedule, your time management skills are always on point. Snaps to you.
4. “You dress classy!"
No, you do not wear “mom jeans"… but you love a classy outfit. So what? You wear a shirt with sleeves? Big deal! You can dance all night without worrying about your outfit coming apart, piece by piece. You are put-together. Doesn't this also mean that you are ambitious and you strive to be successful? I would say so. That is quite the compliment to receive.
5. “You are so supportive!"
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being your friends' biggest support system. You love to scream loudly with them when they get an "A" on a paper, and you bake cookies when they need a sugar boost to study. You're the best kind of cheerleader. Nobody could thank you enough for this trait — and you are probably a great baker, too. You come with treats.
6. “You are too nice!"
Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank the people that notice your kindness. If “treat others the way you want to be treated" is the Golden Rule, then you are doing something right.
7. “You are the best."
You needed that reminder today — a reminder of how truly great you are.
We learned from the best. Motherhood matters.
