After finishing my first year of college I have come to realize my mom is my best friend – and she deserves more than one day to celebrate her. I know it is so cliché to say that, but it is true. Here are just some reasons I am eternally grateful for her and why she deserves more than just one day:
A constant best friend
I am that type of girl that calls my mom every day on the way to class just because I want to say hi. I love to talk with her about what is going on back home and what’s going on here on campus. She also knows exactly what I am thinking and how I am feeling. In those moments, I appreciate her saying “I knew it.” or “I told you so.” because she always has the perfect remedy for my problems. I love the moments when we are together to, at lunch, shopping or singing in the car.
My biggest supporter
Immediately after something great happens I say, "I can't wait to tell my mom!” She is the first person to wish me good luck on a big test or presentation. She’s also the first person to comfort me when things don’t go well. My mom is my biggest fan when I am my harshest critic.
She’s full of knowledge
In college, there have been many times when I called my mom asking, “Can I wash this? Or does it go to dry cleaning?” I am the type of girl to stand at the pharmacy, list all my symptoms to her on the phone and ask what type of medicine I should get.
Her personality
I look so much like my dad’s side of the family, but I am so much like my mother. I talk to everyone, make friends everywhere I go, just like her. I will say things, stop and think, “Wow, I am just like her.” But, I am perfectly happy with that. My friends who know my mom have also noticed I am like her in so many ways. I am more like my mother than I have ever imaged and I wouldn't change that for the world.
My mom deserves more than one 24-hour holiday for so many reasons. Not a day goes by that I don’t appreciate her endless love, support and friendship. I can’t imagine where I’d be without her.
