I've been a bit slow on watching new anime coming out this year, I've been too busy with classes now that I'm in the full swing of things and trying to balance my social life along with my personal interests. I did find time however to get into one of my new favorites, the creative minds behind last year's instant hit "One Punch Man" now bring us "Mob Psycho 100". The character design is practically similar to the previous series but its with even better animation thanks to Studio Bones.
"Mob Psycho 100" follows the story of Shigeo Kageyama or better known as Mob. He's an 8th grader with powerful psychic abilities but he lacks the ability to socialize effectively due to his powers. As mentioned before, he is an extremely powerful psychic so much so that he has to suppress his emotions in order to keep those powers in check. When the accumulated percentage of his powers reach 100, he is overcome by the strongest emotion he feels at the moment and he unleashes the full potential of his abilities. So far I've watched two episodes and the percent rate has been steadily climbing and eventually we as the viewers will get to see what this final tipping point will be. There is also Mob's mentor, Reigen Arataka, a self proclaimed psychic that runs his own spiritual agency that Mob works at for 300 yen an hour. He actually has no psychic abilities and merely runs it as a con artist, excelling in persuasion, perception, and massages. Although he does offer Mob useful advice on his abilities and his inner turmoil of not really living a full life in his adolescence. Other characters include the various spirits Mob encounters and his schoolmates giving out a well rounded cast for hilarious and cool moments.
I do once again have to give praise to Studio Bones for such phenomenal animation in this series. The very first episode where we're introduced to Reigen and Mob is fantastic. Colors are vibrant, space is used well in nearly every frame and you get drawn in to look at the key information you need to take in for each scene. My favorite moment of the episode is when Mob shows up to the location Arataka is at for a exorcism and he easily dispatches of the spirit there and its a massive show of power where everything around him is affected by it. The couple who are the clients are blown away by this and their gaping faces when it was all over was the same face that I made and then I jumped into episode 2.
I definitely do suggest getting into "Mob Psycho 100" if you haven't already. Meanwhile, I'll be catching up on that and getting into some more anime that have passed me up.
