The end of the semester is so bittersweet. We're all excited to have another semester under our belts and be that much closer to graduating and becoming functioning adults. At the same time, we don't want to graduate because we're not quite ready to leave our college years behind and become real adults. Also, finishing a semester means having to go back home and leave behind all your friends for a long break. You want to be done with classes, but you don't want to leave school. Mixed feelings such as these are very common at the end of the semester. Whatever it is that we feel during this hectic time, we all have a similar thought process. It goes a little something like this...
You want to get your grades (and life) together in the short time that's left of the semester, but you don't want to put forth the effort to do so.
It's almost summer, which means that the temperature is increasing and your motivation is dwindling. The last thing that anyone wants to do is study or finish last-minute assignments. Sure, finishing the semester with good grades would be great, but is it worth it? Nah. You'd much rather spend these last few weeks enjoying the nice weather, hanging out with your friends, and doing anything you possibly can to avoid getting your life together. That can wait a bit longer.
You miss your family and hometown, but you're not ready to leave your campus and your friends.
You love being at school and your campus is your home away from home. Your friends have become like a second family to you, and you can't imagine leaving them yet. At the same time, you miss home and you're ready to go back. Being home after a long semester of being at college is great; you get home cooked meals, a nice family, and a little escape from responsibility. However, you know that good feeling of being home is temporary and very short, and you'll soon get sick of following your parents' rules. Still, you can't help but miss it a little bit.
You want to look for a good job or internship this summer, but you also just want a break.
Money is nice, but is working your butt off all summer really worth it just to have some extra money in the bank? You know that you should look for a good internship and start building your resume, but you're so sick of the nonstop work and you just want a break. You may explode if you don't get a break, but at the same time, if you spend your summer unemployed, you'll be too broke to do anything but sit at home.
You want to go outside and enjoy the warmer weather, but you want to stay inside and watch Netflix all day.
The end of the semester makes people pretty lazy. We don't want to do much except lay in bed and watch Netflix while we ignore our never-ending responsibilities. Sure, it'd be fun to go out and do something, but this semester drained us all of our energy and desire to do anything with our lives. In the end of the semester battle of Netflix vs. nature, Netflix usually wins.
You want to be done with the semester already, but you don't want to take finals.
Finals are probably the worst thing that college students have to go through. As if the semester wasn't already hard enough, we get slapped in the face with exams that cover an entire semester of information that we never really learned the first time. Although finals week is the most excruciating week of the semester, the payoff is well worth it. Passing finals gives us a golden ticket to a finished semester, a fun summer, and most importantly, freedom from responsibilities.
