If you are one of the many girls who has seen "Sex and the City," then you'll know exactly where this article is headed. If you aren't, then I strongly urge you to get an HBO subscription right now and binge-watch the series. I was always told that the show was basically a coming-of-age requirement for all young women, and that is nothing short of the truth.
Straightaway, there are four main characters in this show: Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte. The four women all have very different personalities; but, somehow, they all accent each other perfectly. They are all very hard-working, successful women.
Carrie worries a lot. She's the writer of the bunch and is a fierce and loyal friend. While she's great at giving advice, she never takes her own. She is always fretting about her love life and tends to require a lot of emotional support from those around her.
Samantha is known as the most sexually-liberated of the group. She is care-free, fun, and athletic. She strongly believes in her freedom, and fears a boring or stagnant lifestyle; aging scares her.
Miranda could easily be seen as the feminist in the group. As a lawyer, men often view her as intimidating, when in reality, she is just as sensitive as any other woman. She's cynical at times and does not embrace her feminine side very often.
Charlotte is absolutely the black sheep of the group. She's sensitive and wears her heart on her sleeve. She is always after the perfect love and the perfect marriage - some could say to a fault. She cares about what others think and likes to stick to social norms.
After having watched a large majority of this series, I feel as though I can safely say that I am an odd mix between the two most opposite characters: Samantha and Charlotte. Throughout the series, the two often get into minor arguments due to differing viewpoints, and I can't help but agree with both sides.
On one hand, Samantha is too in-tune with her sexuality to be anything like me, but I am definitely as fun-loving as she is. I don't mind being an open book, and I often motivate my friends to explore their wild sides. I'm all for new adventures and tend to love my alone time.
On the other hand, Charlotte resonates with me in a lot of ways. We are both sensitive, long for an emotional connection, and often care too much about what others think. Where we differ is that she is much too judgemental and superficial to be anything like me in that sense.
At the end of the day, if I could be any one character in the series, I simply wouldn't be able to choose one. Every character is firm in their beliefs, just as I am. And again, if you haven't seen "Sex and the City," get to it!
