I Miss My Hometown

I never thought I would say this but Buffalo will ALWAYS be home.

I am one of those people who found out in college that I really love where I am from. I used to hate the place I lived for my entire life but ever since I left, I miss it more than ever. It holds a special place in my heart and nothing can ever change that. I had to sit back and realize that I shouldn't hate the one place that holds most of my memories. I met so many amazing people, saw so many beautiful places that I didn't even know existed, etc. and I took that for granted big time. I will be the first to admit that I miss Buffalo and I hope the people reading this will realize that they miss their hometown just as much as I do.

I Miss...THE FAMILIARITY OF EVERYTHING

I could tell anyone where the closest Wegmans is or if they need directions to get Downtown. I could just get up and go because I know where everything is, but now I live somewhere different so I couldn't tell ya where I am going or how I am gonna get there. I'm basically S.O.L.

I Miss... SEEING MY FRIENDS WHENEVER I WANT

A text would be sent and within a half hour I would already be at the mall shopping with my friends. We lived so close to each other that we could see each other whenever we wanted to in a heart beat. Now its extremely complicated because I don't live as close anymore and we are only dependent on when I come home to visit so it's a little more difficult than it was before.

I Miss... EATING AT MY FAVORITE RESTAURANTS

I could go to Mooneys, Teds, Grovers, and sooooooo much more whenever I had the chance to when I was home. I would order that ridiculous amount of Mac n' Cheese or that 3 pound burger (okay maybe not 3 pounds but it feels like it!!!) and not feel guilty because heck I am in Buffalo and I can eat whatever I want. Now I'm sort of in the middle of nowhere where we have three restaurants downtown and I count on them to give me really good food just like Buffalo would... It hasn't impressed me yet!!!

I Miss...THE COMFORT OF MY OWN HOUSE

College life is great let me tell you, but my twin XL bed isn't so great. ohhh yeah and the showers aren't so great either. No matter how many things I put under the mattress to make it as comfy as possible.... IT DOESN'T WORK. That bed will always be rock no matter what I do to it....it makes me miss the comfortable bed I have at home! Oh and having to wear flip flops in the shower is such an extra thing that shouldn't be a thing but it kinda has too. See, at home I could just hop in the shower without any worries about getting some nasty warts but nope. that can't happen anymore...

I Miss... THE SMELL OF CHEERIOS

okay for those of you who don't live in Buffalo might find this rather weird and for those who do live in Buffalo may find this cliché but oh well... I miss driving through Downtown or on the skyway smelling the cheerios as we pass General Mills. It makes me assure myself that I am home and no other place smells like that. It's special to any Buffalonian... ask them

I Miss.. PEOPLE SAYING POP

It's POP... hands down 100% no questions asked, pop.... At college everyone says soda which is fine considering that is the correct word but everyone in Buffalo says POP! and that's all I've known growing up. Everyone looks at you funny but we all know the right word for it.

I Miss...MY FAMILY

Trust me, I come home often.. more often than I should but I am a family girl so not seeing my family for two weeks really gets to me. I've lived with them for 18 years and then all of the sudden, there just gone. I miss giving them hugs everyday and having them come home and ask me how my day was... it's just a little weird but I'm getting used to it.

I Miss... BEING INVOLVED WITH EVERYTHING

I have serious FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and I get really sad when I see family or friends hanging with other family members or friends. I wish I could be there even though I know I can't.

I Miss...MY HOMETOWN

Plain and simple, I just miss it. I know it was the right thing to do to go away for school and I still believe it's going really well, but sometimes I miss what used to be. I'm not quite good at change but I am working on it. I miss everything about this place and I know that I am always welcome home. I never thought I would say this but Buffalo will ALWAYS be home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
