Last Minute Holiday Gift Guide

Holiday season is approaching and it probably seems like absolutely everyone in your life needs a gift this year. Here are some gift ideas for every type of person that you can’t even guess what to get them.

The Girly Girl

You can’t go wrong with makeup. Checking out stores like Sephora will actually save lives because makeup brands now make the cutest holiday sets within everyone’s set budget. This gift is personal enough to know she’ll have fun opening it and it won’t be weird when you’re staring at each other at this year’s holiday party.

The Girl You Don’t Really Know

Small spa day kits are always my go-to for the girl I haven’t seen in forever but somehow signed up to get a gift for. Pick up a cute makeup bag, nail polish, bath bomb, and lip-gloss and you’re set. This shows you cared enough to put together the ultimate “treat yo self” package but it wasn’t a super personal, really awkward, “needs explaining” gift.

The Girl You Didn’t Want for Secret Santa

Every couple of years you are bound to get the only girl you really didn’t want in your extended friend’s gift exchange. I would recommend small accessories for this one. Even if you know nothing about her, you presumably know the climate she lives in. Try looking for scarves or hats for the winter. This will be super practical and takes almost no time at all. If you felt strongly enough to not want her, she probably didn’t want you to have her either.

The Girl That Has Everything

Despite what they teach you in high school, alcohol is almost always the answer. Pick up a bottle of wine and create a cute, personalized label. Add a witty joke, a group picture, or an inspirational quote, slap it on and call it a day.

The Manly Man

Honestly, I might never understand what boys actually like. Just think: sports, drinks, video games, grills, and food. Depending on your budget, anything between freshly baked cookies and a nice drink set will be appreciated.

The Boy You Don’t Really Know

For a reason that is totally beyond me, men have been going wild about their socks recently. Picking up a fun printed pair of dress socks will not go unnoticed this holiday season. This shows you’re up on the latest trends but the gift is still small enough to not be too invasive.

The Boy You Didn’t Want for Secret Santa

Every boy needs a flask. Any boy that has a flask needs a second flask. Smathers and Branson makes needlepoint leather goods that are perfect for any type of guy. This gift says you’re hip, fun, and fashionable but also only took about 30 seconds to order on the Internet.

The Boy That Has Everything

Most boys hate buying themselves cosmetics but all boys should be keeping up with their skin and personal hygiene. Picking out a gift set from a company like Kiehl’s is probably something they would not have gotten for themselves but is a very practical, easy gift to pick up and hand over.

White Elephant

Gift cards! Gift cards! Gift cards!

While this might not cover every relationship you’re struggling with this year, it is definitely a start to helping calm the holiday chaos in the middle of finals, moving home, family vacations, and parties every weekend.

Pro-tip: Keep a very generic wrapped holiday gift in the trunk of your car for those awkward situations when someone presents you with a gift that they “saw and thought of you and actually couldn’t leave the store without” and you are left totally underprepared.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
