Illumination Entertainment has done it again. The prequel/spin-off of the sensational hit Despicable Me has shattered its expectations. The new animated comedy of the summer, Minions, has been out in theaters for a week and took in a little over $115 million in its first weekend. I have to say that this film, like the other Illumination Entertainment productions, is for all ages. This heart-warming film about three minions, who attempt to find their new evil leader, provides an abundant amount of laughs along the way. The premise of the film is that Kevin, the main minion, goes on a journey with Bob and Stuart to find their new leader, as has been the purpose of the minion race for the totality of their existence.
The comedy of this film is perfect for all ages, perfect because the jokes reach all audience levels, not to mention, it has a choice soundtrack. As the main story line of the film takes place in the late 1960s, there are references that many children will not comprehend. In my opinion, a great animated film that appeases to the minds of children must contain a little bit of dark humor in order to catch the eye of the adult world.
Not only is this film hilarious, but it also contains valuable lessons. It is always important to remember where you come from. As time progresses on the minions journey and leaders die, one thing remains constant, and that is the love for one another and the togetherness of the minions.
I give this film two thumbs up and recommend it to anyone who has a pulse.
