Project 333: What's It Like Wearing Only 33 Items For 3 Months

Yes. You read that right. 33 items, including shoes, jewelry, and your favorite handbag.

Recently, I watched a documentary on Netflix called Minimalism and it sparked a flame in my brain. The whole next week I was wrapped up in the idea of participating in Project 333.

If you haven't heard of it, it's where you completely empty out your closet and only wear 33 items for three months.

Yes. You read that right. 33 items, including shoes, jewelry, and your favorite handbag.

This does NOT, however, include underwear, pajamas, socks, workout clothes (as long as you strictly wear them only for working out), your coat, etc.

Now, like most girls, I had a ridiculous closet. I mean, I had four huge trash bags full of clothes to donate.Talk about "spring cleaning" to the max. I have one tub full of clothes I didn't want to get rid of, and then my 33 items to wear.

I spent a daunting eight hours sorting through my closet and trying to logically pick out each item. I would ask myself questions like, "Can I wear this with several outfits?" "How many outfits can I put together with this article of clothing?" "Do I really need to own 362587439 flannels?"

The questions were intense and it was so much harder than I imagined.

HOWEVER, my mornings are so simple now! I open my closet and just pick something. Everything article of clothing in my closet is something that I love, and it pushes me to dress up more often. I'm going into week 3 of wearing my 33 items, and it's honestly so much less stressful. I'll also add that my laundry pile is a lot less depressing, and I'm forced to stay on top of laundry. (Adulting is hard sometimes.)

Here are the rules (as shown on the website):

The Rules

  • When: Every three months (It’s never too late to start so join in anytime!)
  • What: 33 items including clothing, accessories, jewelry, outerwear and shoes.
  • What not: these items are not counted as part of the 33 items – wedding ring or another sentimental piece of jewelry that you never take off, underwear, sleep wear, in-home lounge wear, and workout clothing (you can only wear your workout clothing to workout)
  • How: Choose your 33 items, box up the remainder of your fashion statement, seal it with tape and put it out of sight.
  • What else: consider that you are creating a wardrobe that you can live, work and play in for three months. Remember that this is not a project in suffering. If your clothes don’t fit or are in poor condition, replace them.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
