I have owned my MINI Cooper for two-and-a-half-years years now and we have been through so much together. We’ve driven across states and across town. We’ve endured snow, sleet, downpours and blistering heat. We have been chauffeurs for my younger brother, family members and best friends. My MINI and I have stuck with each other through graduation, the nerves of beginning college and even that one time when the battery died and I had to ditch my MINI across town. Over this time, I have observed all of the positives of owning a MINI Cooper and fallen in love with my little car. Here is why MINI Coopers are the best all around cars.
1. So much personality
I knew the moment I laid eyes on my MINI Cooper that it would be called Bradley. I started referring to my new car as Bradley immediately and it became so natural. Phrases like, “Me and Bradley are going to get coffee” and “Me and Bradley are going to meet friends” started making their appearance so often that my grandfather confusingly thought “Bradley” was my new boyfriend. Totally understandable Paw-Paw.
2. Small enough to fit anywhere
This is nothing shocking. MINI Coopers are notoriously suited for city living due to its ability to fit virtually anywhere. As someone who HATES driving big cars, as I feel like I’m trying to navigate a ship, MINI Coopers are one of the easiest cars to drive due to their size. Plus, for once, parallel parking is a breeze.
3. Surprisingly spacious
I know I just talked about a pro of owning a MINI Cooper is it being tiny but let me tell you why it’s not claustrophobic in there. One word: Sunroof. Actually it would be two words because there are multiple sunroofs. With its abundance of windows surrounding the car as well as the two above your head, you would be surprised by how much room is actually in those little guys.
4. Heavy
Although upon first glance it may seem like you could pick up a MINI Cooper with one hand and play with it on a toy track, that’s not the case; it is a heavy car. Heavy is a positive in this case because this means it’s safe. God-forbid anything were to happen, I know the car would be like armor around me and this is a huge comfort for my family and myself.
5. Customizable
It’s a rarity to find two MINI Coopers that look the exact same. Whether it’s the stripes on the front, the coloring or the rearview mirrors, just about everything is customized to what the individual driver likes. There is a MINI Cooper store that is filled with different pieces you can add to the car, making it reflect your own personality. Owning my car for a while now, and doing much traveling, I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that I’ve never seen my exact car anywhere else.
6. MINI community
There is a sense of community that comes with owning this type of car. Anytime I see another MINI Cooper on the road, which is quite often, I almost always get a wave or a honk. Having a MINI doesn’t just mean you picked out the same car as this person, it means you’re following a similar lifestyle. It turns the word “stranger” into something familiar.
7. Gas efficient
Let’s get into the important stuff. I am very proud of the gas mileage I get and will actually brag about this to my family and friends. On the highway, I can get up to 35 MPG and despite doing commutes to work, school, and meeting friends, I only have to fill up twice a month. This is such an incredible thing because it’s not only a money saver but it is an environmentally healthier option as well.
8. Fun to drive
If you own a MINI Cooper you’re probably not looking to race. That is, of course, unless you’re Charlize Theron in "Italian Job". Owning this type of a car is accepting an easy-going lifestyle. Although they can pick up the pace and easily help you get through traffic, I don’t see that as its sole purpose. The interior of the car being vintage and exaggerated almost like a cartoon leads an enjoyable driving experience for you and your passengers.
9. Never goes out of style
If you look back throughout all the MINI Coopers of the past, you’ll notice they never lose their distinct look. Once you see one, there is no doubt in your mind that it is, in fact, a Mini Cooper. Even though the types vary from convertible, to sporty, to four-door, to club they all have the personality and uniqueness of an original.
MINI Coopers are the perfect car for any person in any stage of life. Whether you’re living in a city or living off of dirt roads, they can accommodate your individual needs.
