Being A Millenial

Destroying cities does not help anything, but building nature up does.

Being A Millenial

Growing up, my life was not perfect but I had everything I needed plus some. My parents did everything they could for me, I got trophies for participating, everything was handed to me, and yeah I am a little spoiled. The difference between spoiled and a spoiled brat though is me and the kids my age protesting in California because Donald Trump became president. Growing up in the South rather than the North has a lot to do with it too. I am sure that everyone that reads this that is from northern states thinks I am some racist, redneck typing off of a twenty year old computer. Actually though, my name is Nikki, I am in my second year of college, and I am southern but definitely educated.

When I turn on the news and see kids my age rioting over a president, I am embarrassed for my generation. Yes, we all have our opinions and this article may be nothing to you but my opinion. As I see it though, there are a whole bunch of children crying because they didn't get their way. That is how it has always been, right? "Hey mom, I want some candy." "No, you don't need it." *insert temper tantrum from the child* What's the difference in that example with the child and this presidential election? The child throwing the temper tantrum is about 12 years older and they wanted a criminal for president (stated earlier, my opinion).

Half of the kids rioting and protesting do not even know what they are talking about. They are attention seekers. They hear the propaganda fed to them by the news, or hear their parents talking about how dumb or how ignorant one candidate is from the other and base their opinions off of that. I'll be honest, I did too at first. Until, the facts came out.

Hillary Clinton deleting emails is a criminal act, that is why the FBI opened a case against her. The FBI as in Federal Bureau of Investigation. That is no joke, it's not some detective trying to find a drug dealer or a bondsman trying to find someone that didn't pay them back. It's the investigators at the top who are investigating someone that wanted to be your president. Yeah, Donald trump was not the best candidate either but I would rather have someone that is running my country and not committing felonious acts. He may not say the right things or do the right things, and he may not even be the best candidate but he won.

So get over it.

I am talking to people my age though, stop the rioting. The world does not evolve around you. It evolves around nature and you destroying everything you put your hands on does not help. This world is a chemical and physical balance of nature and I promise you when it decides to go up in flames, or create a storm so big that it wipes everyone off of the face of Earth, it will not think about you in the process.

Instead of rioting for a president, riot for conservatism or something that will actually help the earth restore itself. I am not talking about let's burn a city to the ground kind of riot either, because that does not help anything. I am talking about that cardboard you are attempting to use to get your point across, use it to plant a plant in. Start a life. Without plants and trees, cellular respiration would not occur and we would all be dead.

That wood you have attached to that cardboard, use it to make a fence for a garden.

The voice you are shouting over hundreds of people with about how you are not getting your way; shout over hundreds of people about how saving the Earth could save us.

I am not a "tree hugger." I hunt and I fish, but I just believe that we live on something that has worked millions of years to put us and keep us here. We should be thankful for that. Not only young people, but old people too. It all starts with how you teach your children. You can throw around the race card during the presidential election and show your kids to do that and let them think that is okay, or you can turn the television off and not even worry about it.

Being a millennial in 2016 is tough. We are expected to be the future of our country and of our world, but we can't even take care of it. I have to watch people destroy what is not their's to destroy. It's sad. To all of the people that read this, whether you are 90 or 12, share it, just so that maybe the people destroying our home will open their eyes to what they are doing. Destroying cities does not help anything, but building nature up does.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
