With the semester flying by, it’s that time of year again. Congrats! You have officially made it halfway through the fall semester, and with that brings the dreaded midterm. Cramming for the average test or paper is hard enough as it is, but add half of the semester and you're due for a mental breakdown. When you feel as if you're losing your mind and need a pick-me-up, know you're not alone. University is made up of two kinds of students: the overachievers and the procrastinators. Here is a guide to the thought process of both types.
The Overachiever
When the exams are first assigned, we go through the process of irrational planning. Pull out your planner because you've probably already begun mapping out your time in the library. This false sense of productivity will soon come back to get you.
You spend weeks on end in the library and have forgotten how to socialize, that is if you don't count your daily interactions with the barista at the on campus coffee shop or the librarian in charge of reserving your study room.
But that's alright because who needs friends/sleep/sanity if you have good grades right?!
As you approach the night before your exam, you can see the finish line for the first time. Relax. You were made for this. Studying is a piece of cake and you might even skim your notes tonight. You responsible student, you.
If you didn't fall under the first option, then you should turn your attention to option number two.
The Procrastinator
If you haven't planned out your studying schedule meticulously, you probably have put off studying for your impending doom until 12 a.m. the night before. Don't worry though, you can still pass if you ace the final.
At one point, you find yourself convinced that you already know the material rather than actually studying at all.
