It was 11:50 p.m. on a Wednesday night. The backroom at Pianos began to thin out as the crowd from the previous show meandered their way into the streets of the Lower East Side. I grabbed my whiskey ginger and walked towards the stage to set up.
A few minutes later, the stage cleared out to create a dance floor next to my booth. White string lights twinkled around my controller and laptop as eery visuals of monochromatic old medical footage was projected onto the screen behind me. The first installment of Midnight Society, presented under my DJ moniker alice.km, was about to commence.
I previewed the event by encouraging my friends and followers to come join me to dance out their demons. And that was exactly what they did.
Within minutes the floor and stage became filled with patrons - it was wall to wall bodies for the late night slot. The set moved from nu-disco to house to deep house, and the crowd came along for the entire ride. One of my favorite tracks from the night was "Weirdo" by Erich Lesovsky:
The room dripped with electrifying energy -- keep an ear out for the date and location of the next meeting.
