Middle School is generally the period of time most people refer to as their "awkward years". With immature boys and catty girls, it was bound to be a recipe for disaster. Despite the embarrassing middle school memories we may have, we are luckily rewarded with many laughs when reminiscing on those brace-faced years. Here is a list of six fashion statements, bound to bring back some, “What was I thinking” memories.
1. Anything and everything that said Abercrombie/Hollister on it (the bigger the font the better)
2. Juicy Tracksuits
How fab we felt walking the halls in our Juicy tracksuit. This ensemble was the perfect combination between comfy and cute. No matter the weather, the Juicy tracksuit was totally acceptable. Looking back now, it is upsetting to know this velvet disaster was probably one of the priciest items in our closets.
3. Spaghetti strap tank top layered with another shirt combo
This has to be one of the biggest eye soars looking back on old pictures. Unable to wear tank tops to school because of the “three finger rule,” we thought layering them was a brilliant solution. Clearly we were wrong.
4. Nike 6.0s
Back to school sneakers were an essential asset to your first day of school outfit. In the search for the perfect skater shoe, Nike, Etnies, and DVS never let us down. The louder the colors the better. We would wear these shoes regardless of the outfit. Blue top with pink and black sneakers? It didn’t matter as long as you had cool sneakers you felt your best.
5. Studded belts
This weapon-like looking belt was only popular for a short amount of time but it was a MUST. No matter your style wearing this belt was the highlight of your outfit. The multiple colors made it easy to match with virtually anything (or so we thought).
6. Neon colored skinny jeans
Though colored jeans (in subtle colors) have started to come back in style, nothing compares to the neon skinny jean stage that seemed to live on for years. The combination between the brightest and tightest pair possible was easily your first choice of clothing.
If you are lucky enough to have gotten through this article without being guilty of owning at least one of these items, props to you. If this is not the case, and you cringe at the thought of remembering one of these horrible trends, at least get a laugh out of it and know that you are not alone.
