#Micropoetry

Inside all of us, there's a poet; we just don't know it.

A new fad is sweeping its way through the Twitter-verse: micropoetry. Otherwise know as twaiku, tweetku, twihaiku, twoems or Twitter poetry. These poems are usually only about 20 words long, and have become quite the sensation thanks to Twitter’s 140 character limit. Is there anything better than "expressin’ yo-self" in such a short and precise way? Probably a lot of things, but let’s check out some examples!

Some people take this form of expression to heart, and come up with some bomb.com poems:

my words of love
fall gently
like autumn leaves
--their fate is written
on the sidewalk
- User @Umme-Aelia
Floating
suspended
warmly cradled
between depths
and sky
counting stars
like nursery rhymes
child of Water
am I
- User @MadQueenStorm

Some tweethearts use these small clusters of words to drop some mad wit:

My preferred pencil
Is not too sharp nor too blunt-
Same goes for people
- User @MikeHargadon
Congress wingnuts man
Planned Parenthood shutdown plan
Culture war still roars
- User @BudODonnell3

Some express humor (a.k.a. telling poop jokes):

see your #nachos. /
Are you going to #eat that? /
#Toilet explosion.
- User @SizeMattersYo

Some tweety-birds are just fed up with school:

I hate poetry/
school is killing me today/
what is my life now?
- User @fridahuertax

Some are deeper than some puddles:

Hey uhm yeah so uh
You're gorgeous and I love you
Uhm yeah that is all
- User @isthatjibberish

Bald, old men with pleats
Continental breakfast bar
This is my future?
- User @gbiller

To contribute to the movement, here's some of my own. Yes, I know, I'm the next Emily Dickinson:

So, netflix and chill?
I have an awesome futon.
I like chocolate.

Cereal and milk.
Ramen, peanut butter, beer.
My grocery list.

College is a waste
Of my money, time, and I
miss sleeping a lot.

Procrastination
Is exactly what I am
Doing at this time.

If you're ever feeling stressed, just pull out your phone and throw down some verse! And hey, haikus don't even have to rhyme, so it's not like you have to try very hard. Poetry can be for everyone, even those of us who are inept with words. #micropoetry is here to help your creative juices flow, and the best part is, these poems are short and sweet. Try your hand at twaiku today!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
