An Update of What Losing My dog led me too
jasmine Lira

Last month, I went through the most draining day of losing my two year old husky and spending six hours losing my mind trying to find her in my neighborhood. It was one of the worst experiences I have ever encountered, but thankfully I was able to find her the same day she escaped while everyone was at work. For those who read my recent article (link below), it affected me in many ways for the simple fact that I felt guilty for not knowing if I was really the 'greatest owner' for her. Luckily, I have always believed in the saying "Everything happens for a reason." Before I get to my update on how things have been since, I must let you in on a little background of my work history.

Having a job is the best experience for young adults who are ready to learn about being independent, learning about professionalism manners, and maturity. From my personal experience, I have been working since the summer of 2015. In addition to that, during the summers' I would always take the challenge of working two jobs in order to save up for school, necessities, emergencies, and to simply be distracted.

I started at Seaworld San Diego during the summer of 2015, as almost every other minor in San Diego that was looking for a seasonal job before Senior year of High School. It was truly a great first job. I got to meet amazing people, and learn how to be responsible for my department's goals and tasks of the day, and see what its like to simply have a job.

After graduating in 2016, I found my first part time job at Old Town, San Diego. I worked there for two years and learned so much about how retail work and the importance of gaining guest servicing skills for almost any job. I went through the greatest and life-changing experiences there that helped me grow as a person. Also, as I worked this part time job, I also gained another responsibility having a second job (only during the summer) at Aquatica San Diego. Every year after that, I continued to have two jobs during the summer which kept me very busy and focused in saving money.

Two years later, I was starting to search for a new job to get out of my part time job for a newer experience. Furthermore, i started looking for new places to apply to around March of 2018. In April, I had the incident of my pet, Luna, escaping the house one Monday morning and making me go through the craziest search to get her back. Later, as I went to microchip Luna a week after at the San Diego Humane Society, I randomly realized that they were hiring.. and I applied!

I applied online, was given an interview, and got offered a full time working position as a Guest Relations Associate for their San Diego campus. I was thrilled to hear the news and also very nervous to start this brand new journey. Putting in my two weeks notice in both jobs was very scary to do. With a lot of tension surrounding both environments, I knew I was making the right decision for myself.

Working is not easy. You will gather a lot of experience of having co-workers, dealing with guests, learning how different companies and systems work, etc. I am very thankful to have always been so driven in life and get to where I am now. Like I mentioned earlier, "Everything happens for a reason"; and because of me losing Luna, I would have never really found out or heard anything about the Humane Society and asking if they were hiring by any lucky chance. I start this new journey next week and am so excited to see where it is going to take me. I pray I can learn more about being a better pet owner and how to save humane lives... and of course share very great information about pets and the organization itself in Odyssey.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
