An Open Letter To Future MSU Spartans
Dead Spin

Dear future MSU Spartans,

You have made a fantastic decision. For some of you, it may have been a very easy one. You may have been bleeding green and white since birth. For others, however, I’m sure you toiled over this decision for hours – and even now, I’m sure you still question whether or not you made the right choice.

No matter which group you’re in, you must commit yourself 100% to being a Spartan. Forget about all the drama of choosing a college and ignore any doubts you might be having; it is time for you to let yourself be okay with your decision.

People will try to convince you that one school may be more right for you than another. But the reality is, the most important thing about feeling at home in college is letting yourself fall in love with the place. Luckily for you, MSU is a very easy place to fall in love with.

You can watch the ducks from the banks of the Red Cedar River, scream at the top of your lungs as you cheer on our athletes and eat some of the most delicious ice cream from the Dairy Store. You will make friends with everyone you meet, and each day, the joy of being a Spartan will fill you more and more. All you have to do is let it happen.

Take risks, do things you would never have imagined doing and take each and every opportunity in stride, no matter what. If you do, you will find that you could not be more proud to wear green and white everywhere you go.

Being a Spartan hasn’t been easy recently. Not everyone claiming Spartan pride has embodied our values. As a student body, we are outraged.

And it is up to us, and now you, to make change happen. Becoming a Spartan means taking on the role of being a catalyst for improvement. It is up to you to help restore MSU’s name, and show the world what it truly means to be a Spartan.

Be the person that you have always dreamt of being – and be the person that other people deserve to be surrounded by. They say we are, each of us, a combination of the five people we spend the most time with. But I think it takes a lot more than five people to shape a person. I think that every interaction you take shapes who you become – no matter how small. So as a Spartan, take that to heart and become the best version of yourself so we can all grow as a community.

We are so excited to have you on campus. I speak for all of MSU when I say that I can’t wait to shout “Go Green” at you during your orientation, and laugh to myself as I give you directions to your next class. You have just committed to being a part of a family – a family that extends for generations. I hope that you truly take to heart all that it means to be a Spartan, and wear the green and white with pride.

These will be the best and fastest four years of your life. Make them count. Continue the legacy that so many before you have set. Be a Spartan Who Will.

Go Green!

Sincerely,

Michigan State University students

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
