Eating is a relaxing experience. Sometimes.
Food has evolved into an art and as more than a way of just feeding oneself, but of exploring the different facets and realms of the culinary world. But do we really get to stop and enjoy our food? How many times are we encountered by beady-eyed waiter at a restaurant when we don't immediately leave? How often is it that we are given the chance to simply revel in our edible adventures? Well, my friends, that time has come.
Kokai Sushi & Lounge is an up-and-coming sushi restaurant that prides itself on consistency, quality, and good vibes. This Japanese-Venezuelan fusion was born 20 years ago in Maracaibo, Venezuela, by a father of two young girls who was intrigued by the Japanese culture and cuisine. Wishing to stay true to authenticity, chefs from Japan were brought in to teach Venezuelan chefs to properly prepare sushi, a delicacy not familiar in Venezuela at the time. The daughters of this forward thinker grew up to further their fathers legacy. Together, they have opened more restaurants in Venezuela and are now opening one right here in Miami, and lucky for us it is only a short car ride away from campus.
As you walk into Kokai your eyes are overwhelmed at how uniquely constructed and well thought out this restaurant truly is. From the dozens of handmade paper cranes hanging from the roof to Japanese potted plants distinctly arranged around the dining area, the attention to detail is refreshing and comforting. This family business prides itself in keeping the menu and ambiance the same at every establishment. The menu stays true to each restaurant and its owners promise nothing but the best quality. Before solidifying it's providers, the owners of the Miami establishment taste-tested food from different suppliers to ensure the best quality for their customers. Foods include sushi, sashimi, meats, desserts and an extensive sake and wine list.
Aside from the food, the most exquisite facet of this facility is it's element. The inviting environment doesn't beckon its clients to come, eat and leave, but to lay back and enjoy the experience. After speaking to the owner personally,it is admirable that her goal is to create relationships with her clients and to create a lounge where people can come and simply "relax".
Kokai is officially open for business.
