Before I knew you I was standoffish
I was antisocial and introverted
I had a wall, and no one could break it.
Before I knew you I was in my own world
My nose was usually found in a book
And my mind was in a different dimension
Before I knew you Nobody could crack my shell
I had my books and my art
And that was all I ever needed
The day I met you nothing had changed
I was alone in the corner as usual
And I was hiding from the world
The day I met you we were at auditions
Everyone else was socializing
And I was standing around awkwardly
The day I met you I had no idea what I was getting into
I was clueless to the shenanigans that were about to ensue
And if I had known I don’t know what I’d have done
Now I know you and I’m still standoffish
But you keep me in check
You didn’t need to break my wall, you just scaled it
Now I know you and I still have my own world
But you’ve shown me I don’t have to hide
You help keep me grounded
Now I know you and I wouldn’t have it any other way
You are my best friend
And it all started with “Hey! Pixie hair squad!!”
(Tuberculosis btw)
There is a Greek myth that I've read about soulmates. The myth says that Zeus originally created humans as two-headed, four-armed, four-legged creatures. Fearing their strength and power, the king of Olympus split these beings in two, condemned to forever search for their other half. This is where the idea of soulmates comes from. Now, I'm of the opinion that "soulmates" doesn't have to be a romantic concept. It can be used to describe that bond between two friends that are basically family, and that's what it is for me. So this poem is for my soulmate. She is the other half of my pixie-cut squad and my best friend in this world. She helps me keep some degree of sanity and when that isn't possible she shares in my insanity. And I just wanted to say thank you, because my life changed when I met you.
