A Message To The Family Of Micah Johnson

Hello, Johnson family.

I am a resident of Dallas, Texas. I have heard, for a week and a half now, of the acts in downtown Dallas a little over a week ago. Friends of mine were in downtown Dallas at the time, and my family lives in the area as well, so I have been surrounded with talks of the incident. I have seen flags lowered for the past week and a half, and broken hearts mourning the loss of four Dallas police officers and one DART officer. I have seen a city come together like never before, and I have seen cities from around the world share their support for a hurting Dallas.

Over a week has passed and that means that reality is starting to set in: for Dallas, for police officers across the country, for families of those lost or hurt, and, also, for you. No doubt these past few days have been filled with confusion, stories, and hurt for your family. These past few days have been filled with anger from others, and hatred toward your son from people who you have never even laid eyes on.

I am here to try and share the Truth in this situation. I am not here to debate the situation, but instead to tell you this—Jesus can heal. People are hurting, yes, but that does not mean there is a line drawn ending the pain once it reaches your family. All I am here to say is that Jesus can heal. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear not, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” This is a promise from our God.

It is not my job, nor any others, to throw blame and guilt and more hurt your way. It is my job, as a Christian, to pray for your family during this time of pain and loss. To Dallas, he was one who hurt many, but to you, he was your son, a loved one, and a cherished soul who lived life alongside you. My words cannot heal the pain that is felt, but I know that my God can. My words cannot change the actions and feelings of others to healing and forgiveness, but I know that my God can.

God can heal, Johnson family.
