Meredith Grey is easily one of the most relatable characters in television history because of her free spirit and honesty toward life. College, like Meredith's day to day life, is not always a walk in the park. There are ups and downs and coping mechanisms that we use to help us get through each week. Here are 13 times we have pulled a "Meredith Grey" in order to survive our hectic and complicated lives.
1. We depend on our person. ALWAYS.
Our person is like our medicine on a rough day. Whether they’re our sister, our boyfriend or Cristina Yang herself, they pick us up when we’re down and push us to keep going.
2. We love a good drink after a long day.
Have a bad Monday? There’s tequila for that. Rough Thursday afternoon? A bottle of wine is calling your name. Life is sometimes better with a little liquor and Meredith can vouch for this.
3. We’re attached to our pets.
The one “person” Meredith really wanted to see when she was in limbo between life and death was her dog, Doc. Same, Meredith, same. Pets before people always and forever.
4. Dancing is often necessary.
Dancing makes everyone feel better and makes every moment much more memorable. It doesn’t matter if you’re dancing on a table at the bar or in the operating room, I will constantly salute you for letting down your hair and enjoying life.
5. Our mothers can drive us insane.
We love our moms, but they drive us crazy from time to time. They might pull an Ellis Grey and call us ordinary, but they still love us in the end and we love them back, three times as hard.
6. Sometimes we feel like drowning. Literally. But only sometimes.
We all get to the point where waking up becomes the biggest challenge we face and every day feels like its dragging on. We want to quit. We think about quitting often, however, we don’t. Life sucks, but we always find someway to persevere.
7. We make the worst patients.
Who could forget the many times Meredith was bed-ridden on Greys? She hated it every time, because who wants to be cooped up in bed all day when there’s money to be made, mouths to be fed and McDreamys to be kissed? Not us, and definitely not Meredith Grey.
8. We can be extremely lazy.
We have a lot to do and little time to do it, so we take breaks when we can. We might not shave our legs for a few days. We might forget to buy groceries for the week. We’re human beings. We make mistakes. We’re flawed… As Derek Shepherd would say.
9. Acting crazy comes with the territory.
You can’t get mad at us for acting crazy, its just who we are. Our irrational behavior is a part of us, take it or leave it.
10. Crying or complaining is the only "therapy" we need.
We don’t need therapy, but what we do need is a good sob/vent session at least once a month. Crying and complaining are good for the soul, meanwhile the idea of therapy just pisses us off. Besides, life is much more interesting when you're a dark and twisty person.
11. Our appearance rides the back seat when we’re stressed.
Some mornings you just don’t want to brush your hair or do your makeup. You’re tired, overworked, anxious and you just don’t care who sees that zit on your forehead.
12. We learn to expect the unexpected.
Three assignments in one class on top of four others wasn’t part of the plan, but we’ll make it work. One best friend getting hit by a bus and the other nearly dying of cancer in the same day isn’t your typical Tuesday, but somehow life goes on. We need to be prepared because life’s twists and turns aren’t stopping for anyone.
13. We’re chasing after our own McDreamy.
We want our McDreamy and we won’t stop until we find him. Pick me, choose me, love me happens in real life, too.
