With the ongoing problems that arise in our minds everyday, being able to control how you think could be one of the best skills one could have.
Dr. Caroline Leaf, who is a cognitive neuroscientist, has even dedicated her career to studying the brain to see what works best. She has found that bringing toxic thoughts into captivity is a choice from within, and has furthermore developed an Online 21-Day Brain Detox, along with numerous theories that she has came up with that she shares at churches, seminars and Ted Talks. "You can't control the things that happened, but you can control your reactions," Leaf says.
In this article, the basic ways to control your mind, reactions, and emotions will be described to promote a healthier way of living.
Promote positive feelings into your mind.
When one is consumed with negative thoughts and feelings, they are unable to see things with a clear perspective. Having a free mind, however, will allow more appreciation of the smaller things in life. Thinking about the things that you love and cherish in life most is a good place to start. Reminding yourself of the positive things will allow you to be more willing to feel open for growth, new ideas, and a clear mind. Think about the happy things, and those happy thoughts will result in happy feelings, and that will result in happy actions.
Relaxing/having an escape.
You don't have to run away to an island, but giving yourself quality time can be very crucial when stilling the initiation of fear or anger. Taking a 15-minute walk, reading a book, meditating, praying, or simply talking to a friend are ways that you can take your mind off of the things that may cause stress in your life.
Self confidence.
You are the master, the boss, the ruler, and the one to control yourself — understand that. Although many outside influences may interfere with your well-being and decision-making, you have the ultimate say to react in a calm, positive manner. Trust yourself, because you have the last say when dealing with your mind. Nobody else can do it for you.
Surround yourself with good.
Lastly, being around friendly, accepting, and positive people will ultimately help you stimulate your brain to think in a positive manner. Changing your thoughts is a choice, and although not an easy one, it is doable, and it will change your life. Being able to eliminate the triggers that offset resentment, stress, anger, and fear will quickly diminish as long as you choose to control your thoughts. So replace the negative thoughts with positive ones, relax, trust yourself, and surround yourself by positive people and positive things to help you make the choice.
Collectively making these choices, you will be able to make clearer decisions and have a more positive outlook on life.
