Meninist Is The New Misogynist

A meninist is the complete opposite of a feminist. According to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi, a feminist is "the person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes."

Meninist, something that started off as a "joke" on Twitter, is a movement of men who believe they are oppressed and want more rights. It's completely moronic. According to Urban Dictionary user VelvetCrowbar, "meninism is a mockery of feminism and proves we can't request equality without white men making everything about themselves." Meninist is synonymous with misogynist.

So, what happens when you take a joke too far? Stupidity. Stupid people do stupid things. There are men out there, privileged white men who could talk back to a cop should they choose, who genuinely believe they are oppressed. White men, who are paid more than all women and men of other races, who are never randomly selected for questioning at airport security, and have been represented in office 43 terms in a row. There are privileged white men out there who genuinely believe they are oppressed. From what? What is oppressing them? The feminist agenda, which asks for equality for women and men?

Meninists have been taught from a young age that women should be perfect and submissive, so the idea of strong women freaks them out. Meninists protested the new Mad Max film because it had representation of strong women and had multiple women cast in it. Sit back down and deal with one movie that represents women as strong. Boohoo, move on and go buy yourself more Nike socks to wear with your Adidas sandals.

What's most baffling about the "meninist movement" is that some of these men are proud. Good for you for sticking with your "beliefs," but your mother (whether you knew her or not) did not go through labor for you to go out and buy a shirt that says #meninist across it. 50 Cent did not get shot nine times for you to label yourself as a meninist.

In conclusion, don't be a meninist, and don't label yourself as one. If you don't agree with feminism, think women are going "too far" with all of their "political-down-with-men-lesbian-agenda" ideas, and think that women owe you something, at any point in your life, then you are probably a meninist.

The only thing a woman will ever owe you is the egg you sprouted from, and even that's a stretch. Don't be gross and disrespectful. If you don't agree with feminism: gross, but whatever. Just don't claim you're oppressed just because you're stupid.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
