A couple of years ago I traveled cross country with my dad, we went literally from sea to sea starting in New Jersey, crossing Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and finally we made it back to sweet home California. And yes, we did it in a Volkswagen Beetle, probably one of the smallest cars out there. As you can imagine our space was pretty limited and we were forced to spend every waking minute together. Through that constant contact I was able to learn so much more about the man that I thought I knew everything about. Not to mention I saw almost the entire country and experienced many different lifestyles during that journey.
Traveling is such a good opportunity to expand your knowledge of the world around you but what better way to do it than with your closest friends. Now that I am older I keep thinking to myself how different that trip would be if I were to take it with my closest friends. I love my family and all but I just have a different relationship with my friends rather than with my family. When you are with friends you can be a lot more spontaneous which in turn allows for way more fun and memories made (mostly crazy ones at that). Traveling is such an adventure and taking friends along the way makes it even more that what you can imagine!
If you’re going to take a take a cross country trip you may as well take it with your best friends. Being with people your age on a trip makes things so much easier. They have the same energy level as you. Most likely you all will have the same interests as well. Therefore, picking different activities, things to do, and places to stop along the trip will be a piece of cake. The things you’ll experience with your best friends will make for hilarious inside jokes and great stories to tell others later on.
You would have the time of your life spending these moments and experiences with the people that you are closest with. Hypothetically speaking, say you’re getting back on the road with your friends after just eating lunch at a diner in who knows where, when your friend remembers that she left her wallet back at that diner. Now you have to drive ALL the way back. While on your way back you get a flat tire and everything that could possibly go wrong, goes wrong. At the time you may be hating her but in the long run this is exactly the kind of story you are going to be remembering the most out of the entire trip. Like I said, when you take any trip, and in this case a long one, you can learn SO many things. These things can be anything from lifestyle differences that vary in this country to simple things about your friends. Road trips are like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re gonna get.
