Singer Meghan Trainor who is known for her song “All About that Bass” recently made headlines again this week when she released her music video to her new single “Me too.” When she released the video, Meghan noticed that her waist was much smaller her original waist and thought that fans had been messing with her waist in the video. Then she went and watched the video for herself, she realized that her waist had been changed by editing team in the actual video. Meghan then went on to call everyone in the music business demanding some answers and for the video to be taken down. Meghan said she had asked for the editing team to edit her by making her teeth whiter and things like that but she said she did not ask them to “break a rib.” Meghan’s new video was put back up 24 hours later and she posted on all social media expressing her relief stating that she “missed that bass.”
As a longtime fan of Meghan Trainor, I have learned many lessons from her music. Meghan has mentioned in her lyrics how to handle love, hookups, break ups and most of all, how to love yourself. One of the biggest points Meghan wants to get across with her music is that you need to love yourself no matter what size you are and who you are. Meghan believes that body image doesn’t matter. I believe she got this point across with her actions regarding the editing of her video. I mean, who wouldn’t want a smaller waist? But, the biggest problem with this situation is that her editing team made her waist smaller without her permission almost saying to her that she needs to change. But, that’s not what Meghan is all about.
I think Meghan truly achieved her goal of teaching her fans to love themselves from the actions she made regarding this video. When I saw the articles regarding her reaction, I was proud to be a fan of hers. I am proud that she went out of her way, even calling out her label for doing this- that could have gotten her in major trouble- just to make sure that she got to see her actual body in a video she worked so hard on. Meghan doesn’t want to be the most famous or the richest. She just wants to make a difference and that makes me proud and loyal fan.
Keep on rocking that bass Meghan!
