For anyone who has been anxious to meet your significant other’s family or your friend’s parents for the first time, you know how nerve-racking it can be. You hope more than anything that they like you, and in turn, you hope that you like them. At a dinner or in a social setting, meeting a whole family can be super overwhelming. Here is the whole process from being told you are meeting everyone to a week after the event and you hope everyone liked you and had nice things to say.

1. The time has come

Your friend or significant other invited you to a family event with him or her.

2.Getting ready

You take an extra long time getting ready because let’s face it, you are trying to impress them.

3.The drive

The trip to where you are meeting is extra long, and you don’t know why you are nervous.

4.The build up

Your friend or significant other has told you who you are meeting, and warns you about a few of those iffy family members

5.This is it

You’re here, this is the moment of truth, you are about to be stared at by a whole group of people.

6.Greetings

While the family greets your friend or significant other, you wait patiently to be introduced or acknowledged.

7.Everyone’s names

Once you are introduced to the family, you struggle to remember 10+ peoples’ names.

8.Don’t mind me

The whole time you are with a whole family that is not yours, you kind of just stick to who you came with and hope you don’t get in anyone’s way.

9.Goodbyes

Well, you made it through the get together and it’s time to leave. On your way out you say, “Goodbye, it was nice to meet you” to people who you have already forgotten their names.

10.The ride

Once you have left you and either your significant other or friend decipher how the two of you thought meeting the family went.

11.The aftermath

Now you just hope that your friend or significant other’s family had nice things too say about you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
