Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) has always been an arms-length away to provide opportunities to people in the community. No matter how you identify yourself, the PLU community provides the foundation of a family through their staff.
During my senior year in high school, I went through the Act 6 Scholarship with over 250 people, in order to find my path for the future. I ended up with a family that I will never lose during Phase Three at PLU. Although I was not a recipient of the scholarship, PLU did not lose me as a student.
During my own application process, I was able to learn and bond as a family with these students, and with their leadership and desire to give back, there is no way that this cadre will not impact the PLU community this fall.
The cadre is built with seven students this year: Omar, Isaiah, Tyler, Lucia, Jaymie, Elissa, and Kaitlyn. These students have become my friends and helped me feel welcomed with them during a convention in Downtown Tacoma.
Omar is a handsome, outgoing, and caring guy. He makes you laugh and never fails to learn new something everyday. His outgoing personality always makes you feel comfortable around him, and there isn't a day that goes by that I wouldn't call him a friend. PLU is blessed to have him at the school, as he will share his culture and background with the school.
Isaiah is an obnoxious, hilarious, and thoughtful person. I am a bit biased, as he is my boyfriend, but he never fails to keep a smile on my face. Actually, he never fails to make a crowd laugh or smile. He always has a joke up his sleeve, and even in his jokes, his serious comfort can bring you the best joy. He is the best thing to happen to me, but he will touch the hearts of others at PLU. He always desires to learn new cultures and share his knowledge.
Tyler is a well-dressed, witty, and friendly guy. I swear he never fails to have a comeback to make you laugh. He has the best clothes options anyone could dream of, and is the perfect minimalist. I aspire to have the dedication and focus that he has. He can turn any awkward situation into his own, and he never stops to step forward to help the team out. He has one of the best smiles, and he will never stop being one of the nicest guys to talk to.
Lucia is a fashion goddess, she is caring and loving, and so sweet! She never fails to highlight her culture through her music and sense of style. She constantly has a new outfit to share with the world, and it always seems to amaze me. She may be quiet at times, she is very outgoing and loves to be herself. She has the best dance moves to share with the world. Lucia makes sure that your voice is heard, and she will never leave your side.
Jaymie is a beautiful, caring, and an extra delight to be around. With her smile that brightens your day, and a laugh that will blow you away, she is one of the sweetest girls I have met. She shares herself around people she finds comfort in, and shares a common joy in makeup. Jaymie will be an amazing part of PLU with her desirable comfort that goes hand in hand. There is no way you can go wrong with a friendship with her!
Elissa is a gorgeous, caring, and humorous girl. I have never seen someone that owns so many dresses, yet there has never been enough times to compliment her for each one. However, with every outfit comes a more and more desirable girl who never stops caring. She has a heart of a mother that will never end without some giggles and a smile. Elissa never stops caring, and caring, and caring, and it shocks me how one person could bring so much love into the world. She makes everyone feel welcomed and important.
Kaitlyn, a shy yet outgoing girl, that will never forget to remember to be thankful. She is full of love that will never make you forget. She touches the hearts of others like it is her job, and she makes sure that their importance is felt within themselves. At first she is shy, but once friends and family become friends and family, there is never a louder, more beautiful laugh to be around. She shares her joy within her table, and her outgoing personality will never wipe your smile off of your face.
This is the PLU Cadre 9 that will never be unseen. Each individual is unique, yet they share their love, care, and culture in some way. There is no doubt that there will be a footprint left after this cadre steps on campus.
