In Mexico, wealthy kids use the#rkmoc, Rich Kids of Mexico City, to capture pictures of hot-tub parties while they wear super expensive clothes. Submitted by real rich people, the account is asking social media users to send pictures that show the world how the rich kids of Mexico live. In a country where a significant majority of citizens live in poverty and where there are extreme socioeconomic divisions, the Mirreyes, a term referring to members of the Mexican high society, with their champagne and sports cars are increasingly exposing the amount of wealth concentrated into a relatively small number of hands.
Here are some of the photos posted by #rkmoc:
They fly on personal jets.
They own the most beautiful cars.
They have pool parties with champagne.
They travel to exclusive events like Monaco Grand Prix.
They can afford very expensive dinners.
In today’s society, there’s an understandable fascination with how people with rather generous bank accounts tend to live their lives. For a while now, the Tumblr account Rich Kids of Instagram has been documenting how kids who know a thing or two about living the good life are spending their time. At first glance, this Tumblr is so ridiculously over the top it’s laughable. But a deeper look, it reveals some cultural sadness about privileged kids posting bar tab receipts that cost more than four years of college at a private university and joking about it. Depending on your mood, it can be either entertaining or awful.
