I hate to be the one to tell you, but being mediocre is okay sometimes.

There is always going to be someone better than you and that is fine. We need a balance within the world, which means there are going to be pretty mediocre people doing mediocre things. There are some over the top or even less than average people doing those mediocre things. Then there are mediocre people doing extraordinary things.

I will never be anything other than mediocre, and I have accepted it. All I can plan to do is make the most out of my life. I will work a pretty average job, but I will do the best I can at it. I may not be the worlds best teacher giving lectures at the highest universities across the world, and that is okay.

We need people who are going to be there for our future generations in their younger years. I can end up teaching to students who do not care about the subject matter, but I can promise to make my classroom worth their while. They will learn something, and I will set a great foundation for them to grow up on.

Hundreds of students will come in and out of my classroom, and it is worth knowing that somewhere along those lines will be a handful of more than mediocre people. These students will grow up to live great lives and have bright futures and a mediocre person helped them get there.

In your life it is almost guaranteed that you will encounter many different mediocre things. Not all of these things will be people or even produced by mediocre people; they will just simply be mediocre. Not every song composed is meant to hit the top of the charts.

Maybe the whole purpose of that song existing is to keep the radio from being silent before a new song comes on. It is just background noise to keep you distracted, whether you enjoy it or not. This does not mean that the artist that created it was anything less than average. It just was not their best song.

With that being said, take your mediocre days and learn how to live. Some days you will exceed and push your limits, shooting for the stars. Others you will need to take a break, sit back, and let life run its course. With all that is in you, do your best to space those break days apart.

In the wise words of Albert Camus, "Idleness is fatal only to the mediocre.” Do your best to keep pushing yourself to be a better version of who you were yesterday. Don't take a step back from where you are. It's okay to sit back and to admire how far you've come, but do not stay there for too long. Push on, because you will do great things even if they happen to be mediocre.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
