Why does music influence us so much? I don’t know about you but I find music to be an amazing form of art. It’s a universally excepted form of language known from the jungle to the big city, and from the mountains to the desert, every culture, religion, gender, and social group has their own version or preference. Yet we all enjoy it and even sometimes communicate through it. Music allows us to have a form of expression that everyone excepts and often understands. You can tell a story without a single word and paint a beautiful picture that is unique to each individual who listens. Of course people dispute over music too, but if another person can relate to what you say, it’s an instant connection between two strangers.

There are cultures that center their lives around music and their music is known to be the equivalent of our books. Each child being raised learns the tribe’s songs and these songs are past down for generations preserving the history of their people. Other cultures idolize the singers and dancers, spending hundreds and thousands of dollars to go to concerts and see them perform. Buying souvenirs and trinkets to remember that special day. But I feel all too often we take for granted the beauty and soul that goes into the songs we sing and hear each day. Lately music has been turned into a way to make money rather than a way to express yourself.

Songs can bring on any emotion known to man, there’s been times when a verse of a song has brought me to tears of sadness and another to joy. It can even be your voice when you don’t know what to say. It’s used to set the mood in scary movies, break the ice at parties, promote fun times at clubs, entertain, distract, music can do it all! We use it to declutter our brains from the stress our often hectic lives bring on. Or to relax in a bubble bath after a crazy day with the kids or at work. A song is almost like a little vacation from thinking.

We have all had that experience where your singing in the car with your best friend and it just seems “romantic” in a sense. You just connect on a level that can’t be explained. Or when you hear a song and it takes you to a memory of a place or person. It’s crazy how unique each experience is, it comes from the soul it doesn’t need words or explanation to express how you feel, but it leaves room for interpretation and allows us to see what we want. Millions of people connect across the world through similar interest in music. Each song is as unique as each person. One thing is for sure, it has been, and will be around for a very long time it’s a staple in our everyday lives. The best part is it doesn’t cost anything to sing a song, its free joy, free medicine for the soul...

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
