For those who have grown up in the age of technology, it comes as no surprise that social media has become one of the driving forces in which we receive news.
I hear it all the time, from my parents and friends' parents, that this generation is always on their phones, whether that may be watching videos or looking at the latest Twitter, Instagram, or Tumblr post. Millennials are undoubtedly always plugged in. To an extent that could be a bad thing, but it's mostly a great thing.
Growing up (and still even to this day), my mother told me that I needed to watch the news more often, or that I don't watch the news enough. The great thing about social media is that local news outlets are always on social media as well. Not to say that we shouldn't watch local news, I'm just saying before you tell your Millennial that they're always on their phone, it's good to consider that maybe they're being productive.
The downside, though, is bullying and abuse over social media. There are certain patterns on certain sites: on Twitter, people get roasted or exposed. Parents, Urban Dictionary is great to use for unfamiliar definitions. On Instagram, there is an equal amount of roasting and hipster photos galore, as well as
Then you have Tumblr, which is filled with great fandoms and angsty Millennials.
Yet on all these sites people are free to be who, or what they want hopefully without judgment. Try to understand Millennials before you judge us.
