I’ve always been a big fan of YouTube and exploring the millions of videos they have. Over the past few years, I’ve turned to YouTube to find new music and discover upcoming artists. There’s a variety of channels and communities that showcase new sounds through YouTube. In addition, there is a community of YouTubers that make reaction videos to songs or albums. My favorite to watch is Meami because of the songs/albums he reviews and his reactions are priceless. Over the past year and a half, Meami (also known as Dev) has built an interactive community and loyal following.
I first came across Dev’s videos from a Logic reaction video he did in 2016. I’ve been a big Logic fan since junior high when I was introduced to his music by a friend. I watched the video and had a feeling this guy would be around for quite some time. I subscribed and started to watch his uploads whether I knew the track or not because it was a good way to find new music. As time went on, Meami started pushing more content and higher quality as well. Even though he’s gained over 100,000 subscribers in just about a year and a half, his success was not gained overnight. Meami has put in the work and delivered on content steadily throughout his time on YouTube.
With the new year upon us, Meami recently posted his “Top 25 Songs of 2017.” Obviously, the list is his opinion but he gives great insight into every track he chose. This list even put me on to a few songs that I was not familiar with. Meami wasn’t afraid, to be honest, and pick his true favorites of the year. A few of the tracks he mentioned are “Shot Down” by Khalid, “Best Me” by Sylvan Lacue, and “Lost Boy” by Jaden Smith. These are some of my favorite tracks as well so it was cool to see we have similar taste in some aspects.
Meami is starting out the year strong with reviews of “All The Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, “Mood” by Lil Uzi Vert, and a few more. If he keeps up the consistent work, his following and community will continue to grow rapidly. It’s really cool that Meami interacts with his followers and takes suggestions for songs/albums to review. He’s building a community around his channel and it’s amazing to watch how everything plays out.
2018 is looking very bright for Meami and I’m excited to see the growth throughout the year. While 2017 was a great year for music, it’s looking like 2018 will be even better. There’s a number of albums and collaborations that the world will get to hear this year and you best believe that Meami will be there to document his first reactions. If you enjoy music and some great first reactions, make sure to check out Meami’s channel and subscribe!
