There’s nothing better than the crisp mountain air in your lungs with the warm sun on your skin. You’re boating with your family or cliff jumping with your friends when suddenly, a teeny tiny hunger pain jabs your tummy, which then begins to growl. That hunger quickly turns to hanger, and pretty soon a full blown battle will erupt if you don’t do something about it. You pull up your Facebook and scroll through your posts until you found this article you shared on your page. You click on it and scroll through until you find something delicious, and best of all, an eatery to turn those frowns upside down.
My Father’s Place
It’s usually pretty packed, but the line moves quickly and the food is prepared in hardly any time at all. It’s your traditional American food: burgers, shakes (you MUST try the fresh huckleberry one in the summer, it’s worth the extra $1.25 to add in those fresh picked berries), the world’s BEST sweet potato fries, and freshly brewed iced tea. I noticed they have gluten free buns, turkey burgers, and veggie burgers, so this is a safe place to go if you have any dietary restrictions.
The Pancake House
This place is iconic. It has ample parking and seating, so there’s no need to worry about finding a spot. Breakfast and lunch are served all day, so even if you oversleep and still want breakfast, they’ve got you covered. They have indoor and outdoor seating, along with a few cute little shops to entertain yourself in before your food comes. Who knows, maybe you can pick up a Christmas ornament for your tree to commemorate that giant cinnamon roll you just devoured.
Ice Cream Alley
Okay, maybe this isn’t a “meal,” but the size of those scoops sure seem like it. One scoop is approximately half a pint, so that’s plenty of creamy goodness to satisfy your taste buds. They’ll even let you try two different flavors on your one-scoop cone without having to pay for (in more ways than one) a two scooped cone. If you’re in McCall, no matter the time of year, you must try this place out.
Red Pavilion
If you’re in the mood for Chinese food, you’ve GOT to eat here. This place is on the side of the road that looks over a lake, but not just any lake, the Payette Lake. At how many restaurants can you eat Chinese food while gazing at the bright blue alpine water Sharlie (the legendary Loch Ness monster type creature) calls home. The answer? Not many.
Growler’s Pizza and Grill
Pizza always sounds good after boating, or anytime, for that matter. Growlers offers delicious appetizers, pizzas ranging in size from a personal pan to sixteen inches, salads, sandwiches, and other grilled items. They even serve breakfast from eight to eleven in the morning where you can order a yummy calzone to prepare you for the day.
This post was inspired by a recent Facebook post I sent out to my friends about their favorite places to eat in McCall, and I am so glad I followed their advice. If you’re looking for a delicious way to satisfy your taste buds the next time you find yourself in the BEAUTIFUL McCall, Idaho, I suggest you follow their advice, too!
