Millennials and whatever my generation is called, are challenged intellectually more so than any other generation. No offense, but it’s true
We are expected to have all A’s in every subject and know a lot about everything. In order to get into college, you have to have a high GPA, have taken a language, played sports, sung in a choir, been in student council, and basically single-handedly saved the rainforest. It’s almost easier to get tickets to Hamilton. And don’t even think about trying to get a job in your field after college. I’m glad I’m still a few years from that because you have to have 10 years’ experience and a master’s degree just to get into the mailroom.
And I know that I did this to myself, but Liberal Arts schools are murder. I know that I love “learning for learning’s sake” and whatever, but when I said that I meant I like programming and learning about the French revolution, not genetics and biology. That’s why I’m an English major.
With all of our work experience and 10 languages we’re force to learn, our resumes are full to bursting.
Back in the good ol’ days, all someone had to do to get a decent job was graduate high school. College was an option and could be paid off with the earnings from a summer job. A single-income household wasn't forced to live a life of poverty and minimum wage was livable.
It's harder now. To earn enough money for, you know, living, one has to be flawlessly skilled in every aspect of everything. It's exhausting.
Just saying.
