In recent light of all these clowns running around menacing people, I asked myself: What makes them so scary? Is it the fact that they hide their face from you? If that's what it is, then what makes them so different from Superheroes? Batman, Ironman, Captain America, Ant Man, Green Lantern, Spider-Man. Why don't you find them scary, too?
Clowns have been spotted nearly all around the United States now, inspired by what started as a true threat in South Carolina. The first person to see a clown was a little boy, who said the clown tried to lure him into a house in the woods. Even before this, many people were afraid of clowns--nice ones, creepy ones, ones with balloons--and now people are downright terrified. Because everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon, people are dressing up as clowns and playing a game that is actually disrupting society. What they need to know is that they are in real danger. So many women have bought weapons such as pepper spray, pocket knives, and in extreme cases of fear, Tasers.
Why are people so afraid of clowns? The face paint makes it nearly impossible to identify someone, giving them the anonymity to do what they want without repercussion. At least, it wouldn't be easy to give someone you can't identify a punishment. So these clowns, running around and scaring people, are unidentifiable and cannot be held accountable for their actions.
Why is this different from superheroes? They wear masks specifically for the fact that it hides their identity and keeps them anonymous. They want to protect the identity just as much as these horrific clowns do. So why aren't we afraid of these people who hide their faces in different ways? For example, Batman- he isn't so much as a hero as an antihero. He attacks people, is dark, and mostly only goes out at night. In order to catch the bad guys, he hurts them and sometimes he will go to great lengths to catch the bad guy. So why aren't we afraid of him? Shouldn't the idea of him scare us just as much as his enemy, the Joker?
Yes, I know the difference between helping people and hurting people, but sometimes, in midst of danger and the busy world, people get caught in the crossfire. And most of these so-called monster clowns don't hurt anyone, they just creep people out. So next time you see a clown (get somewhere safe) and ask yourself why they scare you so much when superheroes don't. I've heard people say on Facebook, there are clowns menacing the world, a billionaire running for office, where is Batman?
