5 Reasons Marianas Trench Is The Best Band You've Never Heard Of
Marianas Trench

I know people are obsessed with so many different artists right now, but make some room for Marianas Trench!

Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Marianas Trench is composed of members Mike Ayley, bassist, Ian Casselman, drummer, Matt Webb, lead guitarist and Josh Ramsay, guitarist and lead singer. Most importantly — they're my favorite band — and they should be yours, too. Here's why:

1. They are lyrical geniuses. Seriously.

I've never heard a Mariana's Trench song that wasn't extremely well written. But here are some songs you might find cool, if you can follow.

Not too long ago, they released a single called "Pop 101," a pop song that lists (and uses) pop music elements (like pitch shifting, repeated pre-chorus elements like saying "baby" over and over, etc) in order to talk about how all pop songs are inherently the same.

So, they wrote a pop song about pop songs to prove that all pop songs are the same.

Is that not awesome?

Another beautifully written song, "Masterpiece Theater 3," the last song on their 2009 album, "Masterpiece Theater," combined lyrics from every song on the album into one six-minute finale. The ability to do something like this is a trademark of Marianas Trench's ingenuity.

Here are a few more lyrics from their other songs that I really like:

2. They know how to work the red carpet.

Marianas Trench continuously outdo themselves on the red carpet at the iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards. Though they've gone many times, these are my favorite of their appearances.

(2011) - The guys roll onto the carpet in a bubble

(2012) - The guys show up on some really cool inflatable horses.

(2016) - The HHS Astoria makes its appearance, which the crowd (and the band) totally love.

3. They are extremely kind to their fans.

A few months ago, I went to see Marianas Trench on the U.S. leg of their "Hey You Guys!" tour. My boyfriend and I purchased VIP tickets, allowing us to do a meet and greet with the band, where we were able to introduce ourselves, ask them questions and all kinds of neat things. We got to take this really cool picture with the band before the concert in which my 5'4" self looks ridiculously tiny next to Josh.

4. Their music videos are the absolute greatest!

I'm gonna go GIF heavy here, because you need to see this first hand!

This video was for their song "Cross My Heart," released on their 2009 album, "Masterpiece Theater."

This Josh Ramsay gem comes from their song "Desperate Measures", released on their 2011 album, "Ever After."

This is the video for "Shake Tramp," a song from their earliest album, "Fix Me." It is probably one of my favorite videos so far.

5. They have a song for every possible emotion.

One thing I absolutely love about them is that, no matter what mood you're in, they have a song for it.

Wanna dance? Try songs from their new album, Astoria, like "Yesterday," "Shut Up and Kiss Me" or "Burning Up."

Feeling down? "Alibis" and "Low" from their first album, "Fix Me," are some pretty sad songs.

Want to tell someone how much you love them? Listen to "Good to You" or "Beside You" from "Masterpiece Theater." They're beautiful.

Have you been convinced yet?

Go check them out. You won't regret it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
