Mariah Carey ostensibly was to perform at New Years Rockin Eve last night. If you watch the video you'll be confused and probably experience secondhand embarrassment. Mariah was apparently supposed to lip sync to a song but they accidentally only played the background music without playing her lead vocals. So despite having a live microphone in her hand, she never thought to actually attempt to sing her own song. Did she forget the lyrics? Can she still sing that song? Or any song? We just don't know. When people say the show must go on they usually mean that you should try your best but Mariah seemed to have her own interpretation of this rule. Why is it not an issue that she wasn't expected to sing live in the first place? Makes you really take a good look at the music industry. I guess in this case Mariah really attempted to mail it in but it didn't work. Luckily, her performance was the last disaster of 2016. May 2017 be a much better year.
