Mardi Gras Around The World

The wonderful festivities that you know and love in the dirty south are not limited to our American borders. Check out some of the crazy ways other countries celebrate Carnival season.

Don’t be fooled by Catholic rules. Italy is overwhelmingly Catholic, but that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to have fun. Actually, Italians have no clue what the 5 o’clock rule is and are always down to enjoy some fine vino anytime. When it comes to Carnival season every big city street is flooded with wine and spirits.

Confetti free for all! For some odd reason confetti paves the way no matter where you go far before Carnival has even begun. You wake up one day before the festivities begin and WHOOP THERE IT IS!

EDM, otherwise known as electronic dance music, is in the air. No matter where you go the shrill noise of electronic dance music will blister your ears from sea to shining sea. Just ask anyone of the Carnival goers the day following their drunken escapades, and they will all respond the same: What? I’m sorry I seem to have gone deaf last night.

Masquerade Balls are at the center of this unusual spectacle and tradition. If you want to experience a scene straight out of Cinderella Story (que Chad Michael Murray) then you NEED to attend one of these masque events in your lifetime. The amazing dedication to romantic dances and beautiful gowns will leave you in a trance.

Costumes on Deck! I am unclear on why or how this part of the celebrations came to be, but it certainly is prevalent. If you don’t dress up for Carnival, or at least bring a mask, you will be shunned. Everyone celebrates Mardi Gras. End of story.

Beads galore...Beware of the bead brigade. Contrary to popular belief you DO NOT have to let it all hang out in order to have $1 strands of beads thrown at you. If you are one of those that choose to flash, just know that you are being taken advantage of and that just lets everyone know that you ain't from around here.

All You Can Eat, at all hours of the day and night. So. Much. Food. And my God is it good. By the time you have worked your way around to every food cart and truck in sight you may have to insist your friends roll you home. By this time it will probably be 5 am, so hopefully the food truck man will offer you a free ride.
