Have you ever wondered how big the universe actually is? In No Man's Sky by developers Hello Games, you are a lone traveler in a vast universe full of planets to discover, explore, and conquer. No Man's Sky new and original idea brings forth the adventure side of gamers to explore one of the biggest games of all time, but with every new great game, there is always some flaws.
No Man's Sky is the biggest game with having over a Quintilian planets. How big is that may you ask? If everyone on earth (7 billion) found 500 planets every minute, we could find every planet in 10 years. This game is massive, with that being said the game is known as procedural generated, which means that the developers made a system where the game creates randomized planets with different formulas and codes. As the developers have proudly stated, Most of the game will never be discovered. When you start the game, you are on a planet with a crash shipped where you have to use the resources of the planet to repair your ship and leave the planet. The cool thing about this game is once I repaired my ship, I flew straight in the air and I went directly into space with no loading. what really blew my mind about this game is that I was able to name the animals and plants, the planet, and the solar system all the planets were in. If any other players come across my planet they will see the name of my new planet. This is a great feature when finding planets knowing someone else has been on that planet in an empty universe. After exploring and naming discovered planets, I went to the first planet I was on, and begin to explore the planet's surface finding animals to name, materials for crafting, and learning the alien's lore and language. I have done so much and have only been on one of the infinite planets. I feel that this could be a whole game on one planet, yet there is so much more off the planet. There is almost something to do for everyone in this game rather that be exploring planets, fighting off space pirates, upgrading your suit and ship, and trading among local aliens.
With that being said, this game is not for everyone. The graphics aren't incredible, but the magnitude and breath taking views from each planets makes up for any dated graphics. This game is also a for exploring, and is very similar to the popular game minecraft. You won't go very far throughout space without gathering materials which is the same concept in minecraft, which could be a good or bad if you enjoy those types of games. The biggest controversy with this game though is the miscommunication with head developer of the game expressing that the game is or isn't multiplayer. Throughout the development of the game, head developer, Sean Murray constantly going back if the game would be multiplayer game where you could explore the galaxy with friends. Sean Murray kept going back and forth with a final statement before the launch of the game stating that finding another player in the game would be impossible due to everyone starting on a different planet. This backfired when two player on the first day of the releasing being able to find each other in the game. The strange part of this is when the both players came to the same spot, they could not see each other, and one of the players was on the planet at night while the other player was on the same planet during the day. This cause some questions with if the developer had an issue with the servers, or did they falsely advertise as the game to be multiplayer to grab people's interest, just to hide behind the excuse that you won't be able to find each other because of the size of the game. Personally, the only online that I know is seeing the name of the systems and planets that have been named by other players, but if you are interested in this game, expect to take this game as a single player experience.
Overall, No Man's Sky is a masterpiece with showing players how small we truly are in our universe. Exploring and diving into the unknown is thrilling as it is terrifying with constant unexpected planets, animals and relics you may find in the game. I personally never felt so alone when I landed on a planet that someone may never find in the massive universe, which made me torn between good and bad, knowing that this planet was found may be the only time that anyone would ever know it existed. This game is a definite buy for the adventuous gamers that want to explore a game that will never be fully discorvered.
