To The Man Who Chose To Drive While Intoxicated

A reminder of the ramifications of driving while under the influence.

I am very torn. Although I am so happy that you and your passenger were not injured, I am extremely disappointed in your actions. Why would you ever think that driving while intoxicated was a good idea? Clearly you and your friend were under the influence, so couldn't you have just called another friend? An Uber? You are old enough to know that judgments become impaired and reaction times slowed while drinking, so why did you get behind the wheel?

Not only did you endanger you and your friend, but by turning on that car ignition, you endangered the lives of everyone around you. And quite honestly, that's selfish.

I am sorry about your arrest, especially because you are so young, but what did you expect? Hopefully this terrible lapse in judgment and the consequences of your actions are a major wakeup call and scare you into never doing this again. Depending on your priors, you were either only in jail for the night, or this incident bumped you up to a felony, in which case, you may be facing real prison time.

Let's not forget that your brand new Range Rover was completely destroyed and impounded by the police as evidence.

Was it really worth it?

Thankfully, in this situation, no one was hurt, but that doesn't mean that there was no damage done. When you jumped the curb, you hit an electrical pole, which knocked out power for more than half of our block. Unable to stop, you then drove through my neighbor's staircase, and hit the parked (now totaled) car in their driveway. This created the domino effect of their car swerving into their garage and the right side of their house.

That slowed you down enough to hit our porch, as well as a tree that was in front of our living room window, which is what ended up saving us. If it were not for that tree, it would've been a lot worse. We were very lucky.

Our neighbors, however, were not as lucky. Their house was condemned because of the damage to its foundation from the accident, and they can no longer live there until all repairs have been made and the town has deemed it livable.

Let this be a reminder to everyone: no matter how much alcohol you drunk, or think you have drunk, you should never get behind the wheel of a vehicle. Period.

Call a friend, a family member, an Uber - there is always someone out there who can take you where you need to go. Plus, regardless of the hour, I'm sure your loved ones would rather come pick you up at 3 o'clock in the morning than get a phone call from a police station or hospital.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
