Malala Yousafzai: A Voice For All Girls

Malala Yousafzai is a young Pakistani girl, who at the age of 18, became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner. Malala's fight for justice began when she wrote anonymous blog posts for the BBC about living under the threat of the Taliban as they banned girls from attending school as they took over her home. Her name became famous after at the age of 15 was shot in the head by the Taliban and survived. Her story is the reason why people are really pushing for the education of young girls everywhere in the world more than ever.

Malala Yousafzai is serving as a voice for girls worldwide. Through the Malala Fund, she is encouraging girls to speak their mind and fight for the justice of the education system. She is giving girls across the world a reason to demand a change. As people who have always been giving the right to an education, by living in a country where we are not denied the right to attend school because of our gender, we should support Malala in her fight for justice.

As a young woman who was always given the privilege to study, I support Malala and understand the value of education. I understand that war is not the solution to our problems but education is. "Books are a better investment in our future than bullets. Books, not bullets, will pave the path towards peace and prosperity." Malala stated as her reason behind the #BooksNotBullets campaign. For her 18th birthday, she asked for us to support her in convincing world leaders that books, an education, are more important than bullets.

Nothing is more beautiful than watching people from all over the world come together and support each other for something so significant. In just eight days, over 20,000 people showed their support by sharing pictures with their favorite books using #BooksNotBullets. The campaign ended on July 12, which is considered "Malala day" and also her birthday. On this day, she decided to bring awareness to the crisis in Syria. She traveled to Lebanon where she opened "Malala Yousafzai All-Girls School" on the Syrian border, which will provide high-quality education to over 200 Syrian girls.

We should all join Malala and support her every step of the way. By donating to the Malala Fund, you are helping fund schools and quality education for girls in countries who are under crisis conditions. By standing by her, supporting her, and spreading awareness, you are helping change the future of girls everywhere in the world.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
