Good morning and a happy 2018! I hope whoever your mythical gift-giver is treated you well, and your New Year’s resolutions are in place.
However, sometimes resolutions can be hard, especially if you’re trying to revamp your wardrobe. We can get stuck in the same old buying habits and get items like those we already own. We shop at the same places, unknowingly looking at similar items.
Luckily, there are new ways to become trendy and try something new and exciting!
It’s called Stitch Fix, or even Trunk Club.
Yes, all of these are new and exciting personal styling kits that match your lifestyle and your price range, making it easy to rejuvenate your old and tired closet. And if you were slacking on gifts this season, this is the perfect belated gift to give!
If you haven’t heard of any of these services, I’ll give you the rundown. Basically, with any of these companies, you acquire a personal stylist that chooses outfits and accessories for you based on your needs and price range.
You first go through a series of style and lifestyle questions that gets your personal stylists acclimated to your taste. Your personal stylist then compiles a box of shirts, pants and other accessories that fit your taste, then sends it to you. You can look through the box and pick and choose what you want to keep and what you want to send back. You pay for what you keep, and you send the rest back at no charge. Along with the price of the items you keep, there is a monthly fee and you get a box per month, depending on the company.
Stitch Fix
This was the first service of this kind that I was made aware of. This company is solely based on this service and pulls clothes from all brands of clothing, specific to your price range of course.
They carry sizes 0-24W (XS-3X), along with maternity and petite clothing. They ask you a series of questions like height, weight, and what curves you have where. They then show you a series of outfit options (usually categorized by boho, casual, workwear, etc.) and you either choose “like it, love it, or hate it,” so they can get your sense of style down. After that, you choose what brands you love to shop from. Then based on all of this information they come up with a price range and send you your own personalized Stitch Fix!
This service costs $20 per month while receiving a box per month. However, even if you buy just one item out of your box, the $20 comes off the price of what you buy!
Trunk Club
This specific brand is an offshoot of Nordstrom. That means that unlike Stitch Fix, they only offer clothing and brands that Nordstrom sells. So, if you’re obsessed with Nordstrom like I am, this may be a better option for you. Since Trunk Club is Nordstrom-based only, the questionnaire process is much simpler. They give you a series of style-oriented outfits and you choose what you prefer and what you don't prefer like Stitch Fix did.
However, unlike Stitch Fix, Trunk Club gives you the option to dislike certain characteristics of clothing, which is really cool because when you shop, it is made much easier to cancel out items you don’t like, rather than overwhelming yourself with all that you do like. There are categories for disliking any colors, patterns, any jewelry tones, and even parts of your body that you want to be concealed. Another cool aspect of Trunk Club is that they aren’t a subscription service, and you can pick and choose when you want to receive a box: only when requested, every month, every 2 months, or every 3 months.
Costs for this service depend on your price range and the frequency that you choose to receive your boxes.
Both of these services offer awesome personal stylists and clothing options unique to you, without the hefty price tag of an actual personal stylist! This makes it the perfect way to start your new year in something new and wonderful. There are many more companies like Stitch Fix and Trunk Club out there, so find yours and start your fashion resolution off with a bang.
