We all make mistakes. Some mistakes are small and don't matter later in life; others, well, let's just say thats a different story. But I don't think life is about dwelling on the mistakes, it's about learning from them.
When I was a kid, my parent taught me not to lie. In elementary school, I was taught not to cheat on homework assignments or tests. In middle school, I was taught to be more responsible for myself, and prepare for high school. In high school, I was taught to prepare myself for college. Basically the point is, we are always taught to do things and not to do things in certain points of our lives. Because if we make a mistakes, like stealing money from a parent or cheating off a friend during a test, it normally would lead us to have consequences, like being grounded or being sent to detention. Most of us know that this was for our own good, we were suppose to learn from this.
In my life of eighteen years, I have made plenty of mistakes and I have learned from many of them, but what about the mistakes I haven't learned from. Why do I keep making those mistakes? Honestly, I have no idea how to stop making those same mistakes. I feel like somehow there is a way to avoid them. The way to avoid making those mistakes that we just can't break is to catch and stop ourselves. Many of my peers and I are at the age where many of our mistake are just bad decisions. For example, if someone is at a party and they have been drinking, they should make the choice not to drive; this is kind of obvious. If someone is in a pressured situation, they should fight for themselves or just get up and leave. This situation is a little different because not everyone is comfortable standing up for themselves or they don't know how. Seeing someone make a bad decision in front of your eyes and not doing anything about it, is just as bad as making that decision yourself. It's always sad to see someone's bad choice turn into a mistake that they will regret. Just stand up for others when they can't stand up for themselves, but most importantly, stand up for yourself. Stop the bad decision before it turns into a major mistake.
No matter how hard someone tries, there is no way someone can live on Earth without making a couple mistakes. There is no way to avoid every mistake you make. It's okay to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them. Not every mistake can be avoided. Learning from your mistakes will not only help you to not make the same mistake in the future, it will help you realize that no one is perfect, we all have flaws and blemishes. Maybe we all have different mistakes we make but no one is perfect. So go ahead, make mistakes, but make sure that you learn something from them.
