Dear America,
It breaks my heart to see that there is so much hatred and bitterness with regards to politics. In all honesty, this presidential election has been, by far, the most stressful election we have had since Bush. With two unpopular choices for the presidency, it is understandable that there is some hostility and anger, but that does not mean, we, as people, should judge or put someone else down based on his or her political beliefs? Are we not all human beings that deserved to be treated with respect and dignity? Do we not all bleed red? We may not share the same beliefs as one another, but that’s okay because our differences are what make us unique. Lately, as I’ve been scrolling through my newsfeed on Facebook, I have seen so much hatred, insults, and negativity over the election results. I see people being called “racists, homophobes, and bigots” for supporting Trump and people being called “lazy, unintelligent individuals” for supporting Clinton, and this makes me livid. I have been called a “child killer” because I am a democrat and do not support some of Trump’s policies. It has honestly gotten to the point where people are losing friendships (as I have) over politics. Whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, it does not give you the right to put another human being down and to treat them as if they are inferior to you because they are not. We all are equal in the eyes of God and should be treated as such.
If we truly want to “Make America Great Again”, it is time to spread love instead of hate. No one deserves to be subjected to the slander and abuse directed towards them on social media. Although I am not a fan of Trump, I have decided to put my own personal beliefs aside to see the changes that he will bring to America. I am curious to see how Trump, being a good businessman, will create jobs for America and stimulate the economy. America, it is time that we stopped criticizing each other, but instead, choose our words wisely. Regardless of whether you believe Hillary should have won, it doesn’t matter. America can still be a great nation again if we direct our attention towards love rather than hate. If we truly want to be the change that we see in the world, it starts with open hearts of love and accepting others just as they are.
I am tired of seeing people afraid to walk down the street with fear of being attacked and ostracized for their political beliefs. Honestly, it is unnecessary and it only reinforces the notion that it is OKAY to mistreat someone for their view. The bitterness and riots, as a result of the election results, does not calm the situation, but only enflames it. These riots divide us even more rather than unite us, and it WILL NOT change the outcome of the election. Just as we have dealt with Obama, we can deal with Trump. The sun will rise in the morning. The world will still continue to spin. Life will still go on. I am mature enough to accept everyone's decision, whether I agree with it or not. Why can’t we? Our beliefs and differences are what makes America such an amazing, beautiful pot of diversity, and I am proud of that.
To those that have been harshly criticized (like myself), it is not your fault whatsoever. Stand tall in your beliefs and never let someone make you feel bad about your political beliefs or differences. You are in no way less of a person. America, we have the power to destroy someone or build them up. We have the choice to give into the hate or to give in to love. I hope you choose wisely. What will you do today: love or hate?
Sincerly,
The Girl Who's Had Enough
