In the last two years, makeup has become a really big deal. Everyone is doing it. And everyone is spending a ton of time on it. You can even make a wildly successful career out of being a makeup artist! So, if you're anything like me, the whole idea of makeup gets you nervous. What brush do I use? How do I contour? How does one wing their eyeliner? Being completely honest, I still can't really do my makeup. But, I have found and created a few tips to help you look like you have at least a faint idea of how to be a beauty pro!
1. Buy Face Primer
If you are like me, you're probably thinking, "what is face primer?" It is a gift from the makeup gurus. If your makeup dries out your skin, this helps keep your face feeling fresh and hydrated all day. Primer also allows your makeup to stay on longer, meaning you won't need to run to the bathroom every hour to freshen up.
2. Use Tape When Applying Eyeliner
This looks a little ridiculous at first, but I promise it will help. The tape creates a defined line so your eyeliner will look extra sharp and precise. Plus, after you do this a few times your hands will become more steady and you won't need the tape!
3. Buy Brushes In A Set
I know, I know. I was really hesitant to buy them at first because they just look like normal brushes. But each brush is designed to do a certain thing to your face. If my brush set didn't have the purpose of the tool put on the handle, I wouldn't know how to use them. The most useful are the brushes used to apply eye-shadow. Your eye-shadow will go on much easier when you use a proper brush versus the little cheap sponge things they come with.
4. Expensive Does Not Always Mean Better
This is all off preference and personal experience. Expensive doesn't always mean better and cheap doesn't always mean crappy. I'm a huge fan of the Elf products ($6 face primer & $2 eye-shadow) and they seem to last really long as well. The only problem with this is the sensitivity of your skin. Some of the cheaper makeup products aren't as gentle on those with highly sensitive skin.
5. Watch Makeup Tutorials
This is so important! Many of us don't have the luxury of living with a makeup artist (props to you if you do), so we have to be resourceful. Makeup tutorials are a really great way to see how things are done. Blending eye-shadow, for example, can be really difficult. You put the eye-shadow in the "crevice" and next thing you know its past your eyebrow. Watching tutorials can also introduce you to a ton of new ideas and products you have never thought of before.
While there is a whole lot more to the makeup world, these few tips will get you started. Remember, it takes a lot of practice to become a pro, so don't get discouraged. Don't be afraid to share these ideas with your friends either. Good luck!
