Makeup Shaming And The Blue Man Group

Yes, I did wait on Kylie Jenner’s website for more than an hour to get her new lip kit and I have no regrets.

Being obsessed with makeup means many things, like hearing guys say “I like girls with less makeup.” Yet, when picked in a line up some guys are going to pick a celebrity that probably sat in a chair with her glam squad surrounding her for 2 hours making sure her contour is perfect. There’s a huge misconception to many people about why girls wear makeup. Some people think that girls who wear makeup are insecure, that they cover their face in makeup to compensate for some horrible personality flaw, and that they are trying to trick guys into thinking that the girls are prettier than they really are. While some of these instances may be true in some cases. Let me pour you some truth tea really quick: some girls just really like makeup.

Some girls (and boys), like makeup in a way that you like your favorite pair of jeans because they make your butt look good. They wear it because it makes them feel confident. It lets them face the day head on with determination knowing they look good so they will feel good. Some people, like myself, enjoy buying different products and experimenting with different looks. It’s not because I’m insecure or because I have some huge ego complex, it’s because I’m expressing myself. I take pride in knowing that people at my job know me to always have great makeup. I won’t be shamed into not wearing makeup because someone says it’s a waste of money or because it’s a ridiculous thing to be interested in. No one should be shamed out of doing something they love because of someone else. If you like having a no makeup look, then bare that beautiful face! If you love doing art, then keep creating. People can say it’s stupid or a waste of time and money, but that’s only due to their lack of passion for something, not yours.

So yes, I will patiently wait for Kylie Jenner’s next lip kit to come out. Yes, I will buy new palettes from Urban Decay no matter how expensive they are. And yes, I will spend hours upon hours in Sephora. These are all things that make me happy. No one should be shamed into not doing something just because a few people think it’s silly or a waste of money. Look the Blue Man group, they make money by painting themselves blue every night and putting on a show. It might’ve seemed silly to some people, but now they perform all over the world. So let’s all take a cue from those blue guys and do things that we like to do, no matter what people say, and let's stop shaming others out of doing the things they love. Besides, life is too short not to have perfectly winged eyeliner.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
