Makeup, for beginners, much love.

*All makeup used in this article are listed at the end.*

1. Swatching (Verb)

Swatching is when you dip or swirl your hand or the wand into a palette* or tube and then you apply onto your hand/forearm.

The first image shows a powder swatch whereas the second shows a liquid swatch.

2. Contour (Verb, Noun)

A contour is both the act of "carving" your cheekbones or just the look of framing your face. If you were to see someone contouring it would probably look like tribal art on their face The main purpose is to make certain parts of the face look thinner or more defined. It's done with a darker color than your skin color applied to your face, it can be done in many shapes, and forms. You can contour with both powder and liquid. Most contour lines vary based on face shape*. These pictures are a terrible contour on my part, but I was using my reflection in my computer screen so...

Outlinining your cheek bones, jawline, hairline, and nose are the most popular places to contour.

3. Palette (Noun)

This is an easy one, pretty much it's a bunch of makeup combined into one container, but they look so freaking amazing. Ex:

4. Beauty Blender/Sponge (Noun)

These come in so many different shapes. Their main purpose is to help blend makeup together and into your face. You could use one of these to blend your contour together so it doesnt look like tribal art. Another use for them is to apply foundation or concealer. Sorry mine are gross.

5. Falsies/False lashes (Noun)

Pretty easy here too, pretty much you apply a set of fake lashes to your real ones to enhance the look of them. They're an acquired skill, I'm still learning, but you get the point. This is me without makeup (besides the nose contour that is still on there...whoops) with no makeup on my lashes.

These are my natural lashes with mascara applied to them.

6. Color Concealer

Besides your skin tone concealer you can also purchase colored concealers for diffent reasons. The yellow concealers work well for hiding bruises, dark eye circles, or veins. The red/orange concealer works well for enhancing a contour for lighter skin tones, or for darker skin tones you can use it for a replacement yellow concealer. The green concealer works for red spots, like pimples or blemishes.

People you should know/watch. (These are my personal opinions)

***Links to each person's YouTube channel also below***

1. Jeffree Star

Personally, I love how daring and different Jeffree gets with his makeup! His videos are entertaining, funny, and helpful! He has his own line of makeup, that I, unfortunately, haven't purchased yet. :( He's such a badass. He also reviews lots of different makeup on his channel, whether it's $800 or drugstore makeup and gives you honest reviews.

2. Manny MUA

I want him as my best friend. Not only is he personal in his videos, he's funny, and knowledgeable. Manny does some more "casual" looks which is great if you're just learning. Manny is such a geniune person, no bullshit in his videos. It's pretty great. And if you don't like him or his videos don't f*cking watch them.

3. Jaclyn Hill

Jaclyn is just so entertaining to watch in her videos. I think she does a phenomenal job of explaining things and really giving you that tutorial feel. She has a pallette out with Morphe which is crazy beautiful!

*However you wear your makeup, make sure it makes YOU happy, that's all that really matters!*

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
